That, my good man was the very problem. I had so much ice build up that I couldn't get anything to budge and I couldn't get a hammer into the tight areas to pop it loose. It took a can of deicer, but I eventually knocked it loose, thanks for the tips though. They will certainly come in handy somewhere down the road.

Brilliant. Such a simple solution. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, that will be my next purchase. There is always a new trick to learn in this business.

Glad you could use the tip. I've probably forgotten more than I know, but most of it will come back to me when I get my physical straightened out and get back out there. I could write a good pamphlet on flatbedding with all the tricks there are. There is even a special way to fold tarps that makes tarping fantastically easy; I've seen few that know it.

Is anyone else experiencing an unusual number of detentions lately? Seems like I'm getting detained on one end or the other on around half my runs. I'm being detained in Lacombe, LA right now on a load going to Lawrenceville, GA that is "on time delivery critical" for 0600 tomorrow with 3.5 hours already on my clock. No meal or shower for me today ...

If you don't mind me saying Evertruckerr, as much as it is a lot of work, I fear you may regret not keeping up with the journal in the style you started.
It has kept me hooked for months as a non registered passer by, and is an important commentary on the truck business as the economy slid into a recession.

In years to come it could be used as an example, not only that it is very entertaining, I'm not even a trucker or from the USA :) so it has worldwide appeal to the common man and woman.

He's right. I know it's definitely taxing on your time to keep up with such detail, but if there is any chance of continuing the normal format, I'd personally be willing to paypal you a few bucks here and there for your efforts. As far as writing that book, dont worry too much about your writing abilities, a good proofreader and editor will make it all look great.

I'll be waiting patiently for the purchase info.

Well I must say I have enjoyed your efforts and understand how much work it is for you. This thread is like a "slice of life" as a trucker and holds invaluable information and experiences that we all have appreciated you sharing.
Anyway....I want to thank you for a great thread and opening up a part of your life to mostly complete strangers. [tips hat to ET].:salute::headbang::occasion5:
    (Just a thought)
A possibility you might consider for time savings is video. You could record a dialog of your weekly adventures instead of typing them out, post them on youtube or the like and embed them here in your thread. Maybe get some good footage to boot. :director2:

I do believe I'll have to jump on this here bandwagon and say that while I am on the late-freight with this thread; I have read enough to be impressed with your ability to portray your experiences on the road over the last year. It is an exceptionally well written work. I have been driving for some 15 years and yet found a wealth of information. Having never worked for any large carriers, I have always enjoyed the freedom to log (or not) my trips as needed. I would say the one most valuable lesson I have learned from you is that it is possible to run legal and still make good money. I can't count the many times I have driven, exhausted, by rest stop after rest stop at 3 am envying those drivers in their sleepers, using every trick in the book to keep awake. For that I thank you and I am sure there are many drivers like me who are just as grateful, if not more so. Keep up the good work and know that by no stretch of imagination it could well be said that by opening the eyes of a driver like myself you could well save a few lives.

hope all is well gents, and just a reminder if you try to sleep blocking my dock doors, i will wait an hour and wake you with my air horn :biggrin_25525:

i swear the amount of drivers who just try to park wherever they want anymore is getting annoying, if you need a place to take your 10 just ask, we might know of somewhere close, like every other shipper/reciever in the world.

a dry county in Tx??? I didn't know that was legal. Did the Amish open some truck-stops that I hadn't heard about?

I wonder if it was the foul weather that ran your student off, or the fact that they made you stay out over the holidays that made him change his mind. I guess it's better to have quit now, than after years of being miserable (something like me:biggrin_2553:....ha)

You had mentioned in your year end update that you ran 150k paid miles for the year, I just went over the 152k total miles on my odometer, and I got this truck with 1200 mi on it in December of '07. Now it's the last week of Feb. '09 and I'm just getting 152k actual miles...

After getting empty in Raleigh, I got the 'extremely short on freight - find a place where you can park and stay for a while' message, I was prepared for a day or two of camping in NC, but noooooo.... Shortly after getting snug as a bug, they found me a load, the same day. Cary, NC to Burlington, NJ for Wednesday. It wasn't suppose to be ready until after 1800. (but B/L shows ready at 850 am.) Since I had already moved myself to the closest Pilot in Dunn (didn't feel like going back thru the Mebane scales and there weren't many closer choices of truck-stops) . I decided to wait until late evening to pick up, after a break. That way I could roll through DC at night and be in NJ as the overnight drivers are leaving the truck stop, and before the day shift comes in. Now I'm in 'Joisey' just waiting for my 7am delivery. This BJ's wholesale D/C is usually pretty good about getting you done in short order... Hopefully I won't have to spend much time up here...It got mighty chilly the last couple days.... I was getting use to warmer weather. I was actually hoping that winter was starting to fade into the sunset. NOT!!! It sucks getting old, your memory fail, your health fails, your memory fails, you get grumpy, your memory fails, the cold bothers you more, your memory fails.....
