    it does appear to be a switch for the fridge, maybe you have yours plugged into a different outlet, than that switch controls?

    Factory installed fridges are very quiet and take a while to cool off, as in at least a couple hours. Throw a bottle of water in there and you'll have your answer if it works or not.
