Well..the problem is, so many are used to running as many miles as possible...folks going onto % pay don't seem to get the concept that on % more miles doesn't mean more money...until they grasp that, they will continue to run high miles for a $1/mile...which in turns hurts everyone..

Lots of people run out and buy a truck who are well under funded and start robbing peter to paul. Those guys take any load they can get cause they gotta keep moving.
Mercer is no exception either, I've met a handful of guys out on the road who used to be leased on here who all said they liked Mercer but ran into money problems. You think when the bank account was nearly empty those Mercer drivers weren't out here taking the rock bottom rates we all see being moved on Mercers load board? Lots of them must be leased on here still, I cant believe some of the stuff that gets moved here for peanuts.
Cant forget about all the guys in the industry who already have a full retirement from a previous career who are out here "hobby trucking"...flatbedsv77, roshea and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
I better prepare myself for sticker shock... Got a check engine light/code coming up SPN 614 which from what I'm reading online is Turbo/Actuator...
Taking it to Peterbilt after I deliver tomorrow. -
The driver shortage is actually calculated based on number of trucks sold vs the number of drivers employed. It's not a real number though cause look at how many trucks the megas have that are sitting empty. There's over 100 sitting in a Celadon yard in TX. Like was already said, if we were really 50,000 drivers short, or whatever it is, rates would be through the roof. Megas come up with these false numbers so they can use it as leverage with getting laws made and changed for their benefit.

As we all know there is not a shortage of drivers. There is a shortage of companies worth working for that care about driver retention and what it will take for that to occur.Last edited: Oct 31, 2018

Why loads don't get covered .....
I was just called by an agent at 3.10 for a load just posted. It's an hour away with no traffic IF I was sitting in the truck waiting to go. I'm 20 minutes from my truck. Would be going through a major city after 4pm - rush hour traffic. Load MUST pick up by 4pm that's when they close the gates and go home. What's wrong with this picture?
Then agents complain that "we" the drivers won't cover the loads, even when they pay good. Someday some of these people might start using some common sense when booking loads and dealing with shippers, I don't know if I'll ever see that day.tallinthesaddle4life and Highway Sailor Thank this. -
