Yea the only thing I’d worry about is will he stay till u need him.

 

I know a guy that had a good driver on salary, it didn't last more than two months and he did not have a backup plan, got ugly at the end.
Guy ended up turning down work a lot and still thought he deserved full wages. was a great driver just had some odd expectations

 

Worked for a heavy wrecker outfit the past 5 years, took a better position 2 weeks ago that did not pan out. He doesn’t want to go back to the wrecker outfit bc of politics/negative work environment. At the same time: he made $96,200 last year. That’s not what I anticipate him making year 1 for me. However- be 1/3 the work for 75% the money imo. No laying under broke down trucks in freezing slush trying to drop a driveshaft or any of that. Just Truckin.

So I’ll lay it out in our meeting tomorrow n see what he feels about it. I can understand that you gotta make them payments and afford them kids. Can’t be waiting around to see what happens.

 

I would agree with this....I can also see a nightmare come spring when the work doubles but the check don't.

Youngest's boss had two guys running... .father and son. Both good guys.....run hard...take care of equipment I know both of them. But they are job hoppers. He now has two newer trucks and two new wagons sitting.

Good help is dang near impossible to find and I like paying people a minimum... It helps for them to have guaranteed income but it's always a crap shoot.

There isn't a right answer.....if it's not gonna kill you to carry him take the chance if it's sound.

I'll just say I hate being responsible for other people's kids have food to eat.

 

Indeed. Base salary with “be available whenever I call” requirement. Go to % above & beyond base when gross outweighs base salary.

 

Don't let his height advantage get in the way 'Cane. Get that rag away from him.

You know, you could work yourself a little easier and push a little more on his plate as his skill set firms up. I know you are a super work aholic but maybe turn that down to 9 from 10 till springtime? Or maybe do some selling of Ruthless international services and you may end up ahead of the game?
