While I was there, three years ago, it was possible to make 1,200 a week pretty easily. The pay has increased a bit, but I no longer work there so I have no idea what the freight volume is like.

If it is still the same, or slightly better, then 1700 would be tough, but it also depends on which area you run.

    Hope that helps.

Ran into one of their drivers at the Cincy airport a few weeks ago. She was based out of Memphis and said she made good money but didn't elaborate. She was just really unhappy being away from home so long.

Trucks are governed at 68mph if I'm not mistaken and they do keep their equipment in good shape. Mostly newer Cascadias.

As far as pay, they claim to offer up to .81cpm for their hazmat team drivers.

I believe the trucks are still governed at 65. (Quick check on their website confirms this). Again, it all depends on what area you're in. If you run in the Northeast, you'll make way more than a Florida Regional driver, or a Southeast Regional (if they still have that).

As far as equipment, I can't comment due to the fact that I've not been with the company for 3 years. But I do know they were going through their buying cycle when I left, so I would expect they have "newer" equipment.

Remember this though: Barr-Nunn was bought out by Knight Transportation. Knight, at the time, told Barr-Nunn that Barr-Nunn would be it's own company. So much in fact that even though Barr-Nunn was owned by Knight Transportation, you weren't allowed to be in a Knight Transportation Terminal (unless in an EXTREME emergency). I mention this to point out that things MAY change to the worse, and that they could be, or will be, just another "mega carrier" or a carrier bound to pinch pennies in order to feed the father company (Knight Transportation in this case).

I would give them a shot, I left because I was unhappy on how I was treated, and frankly, I was just done with being a driver, period. They have great people at the terminals, and they (people at the terminals) do care about you.

    Again, hope this helps.

Sorry for the late reply, and hope it's stil relevant. I haven't worked for Swift, but I did a couple years with US Xpress, and can only speak of that.

Compared to US Xpress, Barr-Nunn (3 years ago) was FAR the better company. Even when Knight Transportation bought them. Like I said in my previous post, I believe I was just done being a driver in the industry. After I left Barr-Nunn I went back to school and got a B.A. Now I'm working for a dealership selling trucks to fleets. :)

That's 100% False if you are not closely related to someone in management.

During holiday periods It's an heavy practice at Barr-Nunn to significantly lower your miles a few weeks or a week before an actual holiday with the intention being to psychologically force you to stay out longer to make up for a small paycheck or paychecks. If you agree to stay out during an holiday be prepared to be shut down somewhere for about 40 hours or more waiting to get a load when shippers resume business.

This is exactly what Barr-Nunn does during an upcoming holiday: You are given a load that delivers before the holiday then after delivery you will sit for the rest of that day, sit on the holday, and if lucky you will get a load by the end of the next day that delivers on the next day.

Barr-Nunn is not the type of company that shows their appreciation to a driver for working on an holiday by giving them a load with enough miles to keep him or her busy through holidays. They will have you sitting somewhere litterally fuming at the mouth or even something much worse such as getting involved in a massive argument with your significant other while trying to explain why you are sitting at a truck stop without a load on a holiday when you could have been home with your family.

I spoke with quite a few Barr-Nunn drivers whom stated that they would have happily agreed to stay out during the holidays if they were given respectable miles before the holidays in addition to being under a load during the holiday.

Dont get fooled by Barr-Nunns claim of consistent pay increases. You may get these so called pay raises but you will also notice the steady decreases in your miles. After a couple years you will be sitting there wondering
"how is it possible that i made less in year 3 than year 2 with all the so called raises that i have gotten?.

I highly suggest you use these formulas:

    Year1 or less = evaluation
    Year2 < year1= quit
Year2 > year 1 = stay if differene is significant
    year3 < year 2 = quit
    year3 = year 2 = quit

Serious consideration should be given to quitting aslo if you make more in year 3 but it's a minor increase.

I highly suggest you save your money and buy your own truck. Dont lease a truck from any trucking company because they all function like mortgage predators. If you lease on to a trucking company with your own truck dont take anything less than $1.50 per mile without fuel surcharge.

Your profits should be in th $100k and above area. A lot of unknowlegable drivers dont even know the difference between revenue and profits. Dont be one of them.

    Yes, good point.

    1. It is now Knight-Swift (merger in 2017)
    2. Knight bought Barr-Nunn (2014)
    3. Knight bought Abilene Motor Express (2014)

"Western Express claims that it was forced to default on a loan covenant with its lenders, which required them to enter a consulting agreement with Knight Management Services Inc., and enter into a stock option investor rights agreement with Knight Capital Growth Inc., as well as "enter amendments and waivers to their credit facilities with JP Morgan Chase and Key Principal Partners.

Knight Management Services and Knight Capital Growth are subsidiaries of Phoenix-based and publicy traded
Knight Transportation, which runs a big terminal in Lebanon."

    Knight-Swift are Mormon, LDS, owned.
Mormon estimated tithing is 7 Billion dollars yearly.
Mormon church teaches "there is no hell .... everyone goes to heaven."
Mormon doctrines disagree with normal biblical Christianity.
