We really shouldn't be having an argument about whether employees should BREAK THE LAW OR BE ABUSIVE.
It's mind boggling that we even need to have this conversation.
For any Werner executives reading this, you've just seen it for yourself. This is not something that comes natural to some people, it needs to be taught.
Teach employees right from wrong. It's not something everyone is born with. -
Who gives a crap. This country was founded on violence and bloodshed. Nah seriously though, if we don't allow someone to get a job due to a mark on their record, how can we expect them to turn their lives around without? Why are you scared of someone earning an honest living? Stop focusing on a few bad examples to promote hysteria. We also should consider those men and women who are railroaded by a corrupt court system. Our courts are known to let murderers free if they have money to pay for it. I'm thinking of OJ who beat a double murder essentialy bribing a corrupt court system. You can bet your sweet butt there are folks on the opposite end of the spectrum. Men who were falsely accused and convicted of felonies they didn't commit. If we keep a banning felons from getting jobs, we are dooming countless men and women from ever overcoming their past through hosest work.

I'm all for giving people second chance, however sharing a truck with someone who has a criminal background I am personally not a fan of. I ran both my trainers through LexisNexis before I even got on their truck. I already had their first last name and their phone number. I knew exactly what he looked like, finding them at the terminal was easy however I pretended like I had no idea who they were, just kind of let things fall into place you know. I figured if I'm going to be sharing a truck with this guy for a few weeks at a time, I'm doing a little digging myself. Luckily both turned out to be really cool dudes, my second one I talked to quite often still we're on the same account and bumped into each often at the DC or truck stops
Chinatown Thanks this. -
In one case he entered a window, shot a woman and kidnapped her child. He didnt make a "mistake", he is mentally unwell.
He should have been given a life sentence after the second attempt. Instead hes been given a slap on the wrist for his third attempt and will be back out harming people again in a few years.Last edited by a moderator: Dec 20, 2018

Fortunately the woman and child survived, and a group of vigilantes stabbed the #### out of him and dumped him at a police station.
So he doesnt meet the death penalty requirements because he failed at the killings.
But it would not surprise me if he successfully killed other people and got away with it, because he was known for picking up lonely women after they had arguments with their spouses.
In other words... there are probably men in prison for killing their partners, but it was actually Mr.Welch who killed them.
If they caught him on one of those cases... death penalty away, my friend. -
The only problem I have is your initial post casted a long shadow on the issue of hiring practices. You attempted to connect dots to draw a relationship between one particular egregious felon and unfairly criticized a company for giving him an opportunity to change his life around. It's not the company's fault he opted not to take it. If he chose to go back into crime he has no one to blame but himself.
At least he had a legit opportunity to be productive and self sufficient.
Unfortunately, after this situation and others, it's becoming increasingly difficult for felons to get hired. The company you mentioned no longer hires felons. I know because I applied and they won't touch me. I have a felony from 1999 resulting from an incident in which I was assaulted by three men and another in 2016 for possessing a firearm. So if anyone has any suggestions on getting a job I have hazmat tanker 3 years OTR no ticks no accidents. -
Run me through LexisNexis. And you’ll wonder how I manage to go back and forth across the border, North or South. EverMatt43324 Thanks this. -
The guy was actually on my account and he threw a huge fit in front of several of us while we were all parked outside the DC at a local gas station.
The company tried to keep him on the truck for an extra few days and he exploded at the trainer in front of everyone and went berzerk.
The trainer was trying to calm him down and even called into dispatch to try and get him help, but he was screaming at the trainer. Even after the trainer got him a route back to the terminal to get out of training, the guy was still screaming at him.
It was clear that he was mentally unstable, and he was freaking out at the trainer even though the trainer was trying to help him.
The trainer called into dispatch to try and help him, and halfway through the call he started screaming "I have people I can call too!" He then randomly called someone in the company and the trainer got a call from a student driver manager saying the student had been pressing random buttons and calling people in the company.
The trainer did nothing but try to help him and he threw the biggest public ####fit I have ever seen in my life.
The guy was clearly mentally unwell. It wasnt a fight, the guy was outright delusional and standing over his trainer screaming at him while the trainer was just trying to help.Matt43324 Thanks this.
