chain pay?

Our line haul drivers get paid $.70 some per mile and for everything job related they do. I'm sure they don't mind the extra lines on their pay stub.

 

Chain pay was fairly common at several carriers when I first started driving.
Also I used to work for an outfit bout 19 yrs ago that would reimburse you for your showers.
Matter of fact as I type this , the early 90's Interstate Distribution Tacoma,WA. use to reimburse us too.

 

Not complaining. I'm laughing at some of the posts including yours.

 

I get paid by the load. So, the less time I spend at work. The greater my hourly pay.
Not many tankers around these parts get paid by the hour.

Do you call dispatch to have someone come out and put your chains on for you as well? You know there was a time when truck drivers just got things done. Some of us still just get it done. The rest can just keep coming up with ways to get their feelings hurt.

 

Like I said I'm hourly, so putting chains will be part of what I'm paid to do. However I don't think it will snow anytime soon in my part of the world.
You are barking at the wrong tree. I work my ### off and I'm well compensated for it, so I will continue to work my ### off.
All I'm saying is that drivers should be compensated for all work they do not just driving. Many of you don't agree and then complain that there is no respect for drivers. If you don't respect yourself don't expect anyone else to respect you.
That's right Mr Truck driver go back to your truck will call you when we are ready for you (6 hours later). You only want to be paid when driving right?
Man I'm glad I don't have to see the inside of a refrigerated warehouse ever again.

That's included when your hourly,lol.

 

ODFL would pay us if we did, but we had to request it. Sometimes I would, other times forget about it. About $30 from memory.

 

Back in 2000 I moved from So Cal to northern NV. The company that I worked for was amazed when I asked the safety guy and the shop foreman to show me the correct way to chain up since I had 20 years of experience at that time. I told them, "Hey, I'm from So Cal, we put on sunglasses not chains. When the CHP would shut down the Grapevine or Cajon because somebody dropped a slushy on the road, we would just wait the 2 or 3 hours for them to open it again".
