Came across a tragic one here last night. Didn't lend me the greatest sleep. Didn't know what to do with the thought either.

Back and forth with and agent on a pending load, and get interrupted, because there's a "Driver missing".

On the way to deliver, 2 hours short, then pick up the agents' load - regular deal that he has.

Wife has called agent - "Haven't heard from hubby since 7pm - night before last". Corporate pings driver in Indiana - on duty for 28 hours, at a town in Indiana. I look up the town, there's a truck stop there, but GPS co-ordinates find him at a NB rest area.

Wife is worried. 51 year old hubby had heart issues 10 years ago, on meds to alleviate blockage in artery. Agent advises wife to prepare for bad news, and alerts LEO for a wellness check. They do so.

LEO advises agent of the situation, but wants to inform wife of the outcome in person. Agent spends several hours in communication with wife knowing the reality, but unable to let her know.

We theorized the driver felt ill, pulled into rest area, went back to the sleeper and had a heart attack.

Turns out - LEO discover driver in truck - idled out of diesel - with single gunshot wound, apparently self inflicted with own weapon.

Father of 12 year old daughter.

I thought I was ###### up in thinking "Why not deliver the load first?" - but a buddy of mine reflected the same thought. Guess I'm not alone. But if not "why", then I guess "when". He pulled into the rest area Friday AM, went into the back, and killed himself. For whatever reason.

I offered assistance in returning the truck - delivering the load - whatever I could, but I guess the legalities would become a bit messy - probably wrecker the truck to the shipper to unload and return truck and trailer to the wife's home town as she prepares for a funeral.

    Messed up.

Sorry - just had to unass that. Merry Christmas?

As strange as it may sound, sometimes the better places to find non-biased news on what's going on in 'Murica is to look at non 'Murican outlets. Can actually find reporting that's not just completely slathered in one sided spin.

I have zero sympathy for someone that takes their life. I hate it for the family but cannot bring my self to feel sorry for the person.

Mainly because it's a selfish act to do that because you pass that pain onto someone else.

They'd pull the truck from the trailer and get it delivered that way. The truck will likely go to impound to be processed.

That's truly sad. Nobody should have to go through that kind of pain, on either side of issue.

Christmas unfortunately places a lot of pressure on people.

As an employer I struggle this time of year as well. Trying to make sure that the employees all receive a substantial bonus while juggling the receivables and payables can be a burden.

While I have never even began to contemplate ending things, I do understand the emotion. I always snap out of though on the 24th...…..when I do my shopping!!!!
