Just heard an ad on the radio for Doug Andrus. Come in for an interview and compare your current carriers pay and benefits to what Andrus has to offer and receive 100 dollars just for the interview, fifty extra if you bring your spouse . Any other new gimmicks besides five figure bonuses out there ? I guess it’s a sign of the times

There’s a very limited amount of well experienced drivers out there when compared to the number of seats [available and projected] so it stands to reason competition for them will be aggressive. Especially considering a good number of seasoned drivers are more or less happy where they are and are not anxious to leave a known good thing for a huge unknown.

Reminds me of a local car dealers commercial from years ago. "Bring your wife, and your title, and we'll dicker....."

Without any investigation other than this thread, it would appear they’re taking a page out of the classic car dealer play book.
“Shop the competition first, then come let us show you our difference!”Broke Down 69, Metallica88, homeskillet and 2 others Thank this. -
How about this one for a gimmick. I saw an add yesterday for a mega that says " No plans for Christmas?" Start orientation this Monday and receive an additional $500 bonus". Tell me they are not hard up for drivers?

I agree that this is a cheesy gimmick, but I drove for them a few years back... They weren't the highest paying out there, but they did have nice, well maintained equipment, and treated me well. I got a lot of miles running for them and was only out for about 9-14 days at a time. IMO they are a good OTR company for the location. I only left for a local LTL job because I wanted to be home daily.

The Idaho Falls area has the same problem that people deal with in Western Montana, there’s a limited driver pool. Like @STexan said, many people are generally happy where they’re at and not really looking to make a change.
There’s a tanker company in Missoula that’s had a contract with Town Pump for forever and they recently gave up a bunch of their stores due to being stretched too thin and not finding new drivers. Another company saw dollar signs and picked up all that work and now they’re running an ad every week looking for tanker drivers in Missoula.
Getting new hires can be tough in an area that doesn’t have new drivers continually entering the field.Nothereoften, All4Safety and snowlauncher Thank this. -
Get you there in person and really put the hard sell on you. Ever been to one of those "seminars" where you get TV just to listen to a sales pitch about a time share? They use tag teams of salesmen to wear you down.
It is the ultimate in the high pressure experience. I despise high pressure. I can smell it a mile away. Wouldn't even consider any company using such tactics.Nothereoften Thanks this. -
The funniest gimmicks are the ones where they try to use psychology.
Wylie Flatedbed:
“Are you Wylie tough?”
In other words, if don’t want to work here, you’re soft.
Or like all the “fleece” purchase scams:
“Sign up for lease purchase and be an OWNER OPERATOR”.
Suckers fall for the psychology gimmicks left and right.Broke Down 69, Metallica88, Anonymousproxy and 8 others Thank this. -
The Are you tough enough to work for low pay in a crappy truck and do a lot of work for free ads are almost as good as We need a few good drivers to replace the ones that weren’t
Mooseontheloose, D.Tibbitt and IluvCATS Thank this.
