HOUSTON, Texas - A Houston driver had a scary encounter when a runaway spool slammed into his pickup truck Thursday afternoon.
RELATED: Beltway North spool marks 5th loose obstacle on Houston roadway since October
Paul Miller told ABC13 that he was pulling out of a gas station near West Little York and the North Beltway when a loose spool came towards his vehicle.
The driver carrying the spool allegedly took off after losing his load. Now, Miller says he's looking for the driver, and hopes someone snapped a picture of him.
Miller says he's worried that he won't be able to afford the repairs needed for his truck.

I joked with myself the other day, “It happens it more places than Houston!” There was a backup on 20 Thursday near Van, TX when a day cab with a step deck had those big spools on it and hit a bridge with one of them. It was in the ditch. Truck and trailer looked fine but several cops were there and a crane but they hadn’t started to move it yet when I passed by. Had the right lane closed.

i hope TX DOT goes out and stops every flatbed from now on.
and fine them heavily for unsecured loads. up to maybe even suspending the CDL of the driver.
this crap has got to stop.mjd4277, Just passing by and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this. -
My theory on this is... I live in Houston and I have a feeling that these flat betters that are hauling these spools I some of these fly-by-night carriers in the Houston area... I do have a feeling that that HPD truck enforcement division is gonna be out in force now paying strict attention to those loads...

I like how they say the driver took off and they hope to track him down. The #### driver didn’t even know he lost his load most likely. He probably knew once he reached his destination. But the news likes to make assumptions without facts

Well I would say take a quick look before pulling them over see if it looks like they've got #### tied down, but otherwise yeah they need to catch this stuff and the mental midgets need a thrashing.mjd4277, IluvCATS, drvrtech77 and 2 others Thank this.

Sorry, but if you lose a spool that size and don't know it till you get to your destination, you shouldn't be pulling flats.
Wait, let me correct that. If you lose a spool that size, you shouldn't be pulling flats.mjd4277, Just passing by, SavageMuffin and 4 others Thank this. -
I tied it down with really strong rope.
