I pulled only a couple of loads with my mentor last year and he did all the work associated with it.

Soon to start with another company pulling reefers full time across the lower 48. Any sage advice, suggestions, experiences, wisdom to share that will come in handy? TIA!

    - Bring something to do... You'll be sitting. A LOT.
    - Get used to paying lumpers outrageous prices to unload and restack your trailer.
    - Did I mention that you'll be sitting while the company "checks case count" of the load AFTER its unloaded?

On, and on, and on... That's why I got out of it and I only did one dedicated account (and most of that was drop and drag.)

I plan to do it for maybe 6 months to get a year total under my belt. Company says I'll average 3000-3300 miles a week somehow still, so I imagine there's a significant amount of drop n hook with their accounts. Couldn't pass up that mileage. I am going to have to take up needlepoint or something otherwise.lol Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

Biggest thing is to know the weight of the load. Is it a multi stop or pickup? Is it all at the same temp or do bulkheads have to be put in?

    30 pallets is max.
If there heavy it 1,21,2 or the drives will be over weight.

Hopefully your dispatcher knows a lot about the reefer. Watch some videos on Reefer codes and how to clear them etc.

If your picking up produce from farms you better have a thermo imagine thermometer if it’s hot on the inside of the pallet/product it will be junk when it gets delivered. If a farm won’t let you scan it I’d write it on the bills before leaving.

    Best of luck

I've never hauled reefer because of all the horror stories I heard from other people. I've heard so many bad stories about forklift drivers being greedy and causing the drivers claims.. the long wash out lines at blue beacon... yea man I'd stay away from it.. I've got a buddy now who hauls ice cream and he calls me complaining about those 10 hours unload times..

Well, I have a choice between getting 3000-3300 miles a week (that's what they told me, anyway) and getting a $500 bonus for doing dry van western 11 in the middle of winter, so I dunno...
