The governments involvement is what got the trucking industry as screwed up as it is in the first place,u4icwargasm, hotrod1653, Intothesunset and 8 others Thank this.

It might become necessary. Makes me wonder if drivers in the future will recieve medical care similar to VA. Etc.
The only contact that Ive had with anything close to Eastern Europe has been in a older truckstop down in Texas way south of Dallas and east of Carls Corner as the crow flies. It had very good people and excellent food to order. It burned at some point in the late 90's and once replaced, it was not the same.
I don't mind people working on 1099, but I choose to stick with W2 employee status where possible. They are not the only companies in the ocean. There are many others without any hint of problems outside of the usual among a percentage of the drivers who are either high maintance or leaning towards having issues of one kind or another requiring special attention that takes away from everyone else on the fleet. -
It's not just Chicago with 1099 outfits, they are popping up all across the country. If I were you, I'd get on the phone and talk with whomever. If you have enough experience, you can get a feel for a company and if it would be a good fit. You have to ask the right questions though. I tend to focus on freight and money, and if the company can keep me in position to move loads and make money. I always ask how often they route to terminals, frequency of PMs, and maintenance operations. I like to get everything checked as often as possible. Catch issues before they become tragic, and you stay running

There’s only so much you’ll learn on the phone anyway. You can ask all the right questions but invariably you may not get an honest answer to them. Companies love to bait n switch drivers. You can ask other drivers or the company or scrounge around online to get answers but ultimately the only way you’ll know what’s happening is finding out first hand yourself. And that can be risky.
Intothesunset, WildTiger1990, Tb0n3 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You could ask them if ALL of their dispatchers are here in the USA. For many experienced drivers this is a deal breaker if they’re not.
-
Most of these outfits dispatch in their own country.Intothesunset, IluvCATS and Tb0n3 Thank this.
-
How do you know that? I mean, Eastern Europe is an 12 or so hrs ahead of USA
-
You better do some more research. A lot of these Chicago companies are using dispatchers in Eastern Europe.Lonesome Thanks this.
