Weve reached a dillema.....a glitch in the Matrix........a fly in the ointment.....Evermore numbers of drivers are running into a problem of being demanded by more accurately recorded forms of time- monitoring devices pertaining to logs, as by requirements recently installed by the FMCSR......
COOL....easy enough......that is until this happens........Driver shuts down in a non- truck stop environment......which, is easy enough to do , or be required to do by circumstance........and yes, proper pre -planning can reduce these instances of being FORCED to park elsewhere - but not ALWAYS.......and heres the part that
Is cause for fear.......and yes, it causes fear.......its a fear that has increased lately - the scene is always the same, a driver parks on a dirty spot on a shoulder, or in a industrial area, or even on private property such as a lot where trucks sometimes frequent to make their own delivery......
Like a lowes or a walmart........seems reasonable? Right? Afterall, the law states that he must take a mandatory 10 hour break ..... AND hes gotta take his truck with him........... but, the laws locally may state that no overnight parking allowed.......varying from city to city.......
Nothing like looking at the google satelite images to cind your spot ( pretrip, mid- trip) and make it with only minutes to spare- only to get a visitation by what could be ANYONE an hour or two into that 10 hour off duty break and hearing those nerve- racking words forcefully sound from furrowed faces - YOU CANT PARK HERE!.......
opens up a whole new bunch of annoying decisions that now must be faced and dealt with.........what are some of your experiences ? How did you deal? How did the company react? The law? How did you adjust afyerwards?
Please share your experiences here......

They've laxed the PC thing a bit to be more user friendly.
I love the trucks that come and park in OUR parking spots. At the plant. Or a couple of spots that block off our spots. We're basically assigned to the corner of the property.
A few spots basically assigned for us for the night to park as we haul their product. Employee parking so to speak.
I CAN'T MOVE. I'M ON ELOG.
I don't care what you're on. You're blocking us. And there's 5 open spots on the other side. And a field right next to the gate.tscottme Thanks this. -
The bottom line is, nothing that wont guarantee no ticket. What I mean is this; you can pre-plan all you want but if you don't know the area your going into, well than you can't really know if the place will be packed or not allow trucks until you get there. The Law states that you can continue to drive until you find a safe and legal place to park but, the case you speak of, well this law does not apply because your supposed to pre-plan, right? You and I know that things just don't work that way in the real world but law does not. So, what I would do, is just leave and find a better place to park. Now if you can drive 4 mph and not have your elogs come on, than there ya go. You can drive for miles, at 4mph. but hopefully you can just drive a block or so, that will work. Otherwise, right down all that happened, and just drive to a safe and legal place and start your 10 over. Of course your going to have to call you company, unless you are the company.

Been trucking 25 yrs, been on elog the last 5 or so...never had an issue and never had to park on the shoulder or on a ramp. And I also don't "make a spot" in a truckstop.
bzinger, roshea, laaylor and 1 other person Thank this. -
Where does it say that?
The only ways to drive under a load is being detained at a shipper/receiver. Then only to the closest safest place. Also not allowed to advance the load. I.E. A loaded trailer is fine to go to a restaurant from the truckstop. Mostly applies to straight trucks, but anyone can use it.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
