I'm currently at the TA in Reno.
This is a long post, my rant for this BS day. So won't hold it against any of ya'll if ya pass on by.
After careful planning to time my trip up to allow for snow removal on the highway and warmer temps to set in, I departed Barstow with an eta of 10 am at Herlong. Had until 2 pm to get there, so plenty of time, right?
So cruising up 395, making good time, and sob, they have chain control up. So I pull over and throw iron. For this...
Seriously? You think this requires chains? This is nothing. Surely it's going to get worse right?
So it turns into this...
The way that left lane looks, is about how it was when it turned back into a 2 lane. Chain control is still up. So I'm now running chain to pavement, around 25mph. Running chain directly on the road tears up equipment and can be dangerous, so yeah we're going slow. For a good couple hrs it's like this.
Get into a little town and I'm tired of watching my tire chains, brand new tires, and differentials get beat up for no reason. So I pull over and yank them off. Not more than 2 minutes after I get going, black and white coming at me, flips around and lights me up.
He wants to know where my chains are. I told him, in the box where they belong. No they belong on your tires, I know you saw the signs. Told him I did, but the chains are doing more harm than anything right now, so I took 'em off.
He tells me if I go over this next hill without them, I'm gonna crash. I had the thought right here of giving this dude half my age what for, let him know I was driving in snow and mud 3' deep before he was a thought in his daddy's pants, but I caught hold of my tongue and held it.
He tells me he's gonna give me a warning, but put the chains on or it'll be a ticket. So I throw iron, again. Want to know what it looked like over that next hill? Well...
And the road was like that, save for a tiny bit of slush here and there, for the next 2 & 1/2 hrs.
So here I am, 25mph forever it seems like, and now there's no way I can make my pickup by 2 pm. And I'm in at least no ways happy.
Then the more I thought about it the more POed I got until my blood started gettin hot. So I said #### it, I'm yankin' these chains next spot I get to and gonna have pictures and a few other things for the court if I get stopped again.
Chain control still in effect...
So I went ahead and pulled 'em off, and moved on. Now I done missed my pickup, which will cost me a day of lost revenue. And for nothing, just no sense in it.beastr123, J3trucking, 1951 ford and 27 others Thank this. -
