Are there any methods to help reduce detention besides just avoiding certain warehouses assuming I'm booking my own work? Would bribing the lumpers work lol? Thanks

Are you booking your own work or a company driver or what ?

Don’t be late. Don’t cop an attitude right from the time you walk in the door. Understand some delays are unavoidable. Trucks have occasional delays, too.
Every shipper and receiver is going to have “good days and bad days”. It’s just part of trucking.Tombstone69, PE_T and ElijahJohn1 Thank this. -
don't get into that habit of "bribing" cuz some day when you go there, and you ain't got the scratch, you're sitting LONGER than you would have normally.
just be on time, or a bit early, don't mouth off at ANY TIME or ANYPLACE on the property, as you DO NOT KNOW all the players and you might just mouth off to an employee on his/her break.Tombstone69 and ElijahJohn1 Thank this. -
My situation may be different from yours, but I always call ahead to give them an ETA so that they can have my orders ready when I arrive. I also text them the PO numbers so that if they do not have them they can call the CSR to get those orders printed and over to the whse for pulling.
It helps to have everyones cell numbers for this purpose! -
Food warehouses are the worst, they love to use your trailer for free cold storage, especially if they don't need the frieght.I used to tell them my reefer was out of fuel and I wouldn't be responsible for the frieght.Only works in warm weather and with receivers that are not too bright. When I was hauling plants to Home Depot,I had a#for corporate that got me unloaded in 15minutes.

Grocery and food cold storage are really bad.
You have to accept that it is not up to you to get out in a timely manner. Getting profane and abusive will add hours to your problems.
I did two things to alleviate that problem permanently. First I check with prospective employer, you have drop hook privileges in say Walmart? If so, you go in, drop, hook and gone in 15 minutes past all those poor truckers waiting.
Second I went into high dollar medicines etc. That pretty much eliminates the BS all together. You do bring in another set of problems being Prey but that's not part of this topic.
I have adopted a final thought that Food Cold Storage is the absolute wage killing parasite against any driver forced to wait. And wait while the next load plans got destroyed and your weekly mileage pay goes to ####. -
Just announcing your reefer is out of fuel and you aren't responsible doesn't make you not responsible lol
They will likely tell you to go full it up then
Oh and btw your new appointment is 3 days from nowKB3MMX, just_sayin, Tombstone69 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Could you specify on what problems high dollar medicines brings in? Thanks

One simple issue. Your life is forfeit in Downtown Memphis should the drug dealer see a bunch of narcotics in that trailer. That would be a basic license carry defense problem in the future if that time comes. (Which is probably not going to happen due to a range of issues inside my physical situation) The truck and trailer has no markings or labels or anything to distinguish it. The trailer has it's own qualcomm and load includes hidden transponders and trackers. You do not stop as a team or solo once loaded and rolling by drop/hook.
You are basically prey in a land of predators who will kill you for the contents of that trailer. Only the predators must understand that there is too much of a risk of armed drivers in this kind of work in concealed carry which is legal regardless of some wimpy lipservice employer policy not to carry guns.
Just about all loads we handled with them has been flawless. Some of our best work. It's motivating to see it well done with a reliable truck.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 9, 2019
