Since everyone hates this adaptive cruise control how about using hand throttle you have to hope to find in an emergency and hit the button just right/unscrew it just enough to match speed

I think the issue you have a hard time understanding is,,, Complacency.
To many younger drivers believe that a lot of this so called safety technology will get them out of trouble.

Both of the Mack Anthem's I test drove over the summer had A.C.C., yes, it's so much fun when you're cruising at 72 mph and start to close on a 64 mph truck. I was able to silence the A.C.C. (although every time I restarted the truck it would reset itself ), but the A.C.C. would slowly start to slow the closing distance, until it match the speed of the truck ahead. That was so much when I closed on a Prime going 57 mph, at 3:45 am, when I was half asleep, and didn't realize for 5 miles that I had slowed to 55 mph.

Yes, you can override the A.C.C. (on some trucks if big brother doesn't turn that feature off), but only to a certain speed, and only for a certain distance, before it kicks back in. If you're on a 2 lane and have the sudden need to pass a slower vehicle, you better plan that well in advance, and be prepared to act on it.

If you're unlucky to be able to silence it, well, now you're in for real fun, when that beep kicks in, it overrides the stereo (including if you have a phone, ipod or other media device connected to the stereo by aux cord, USB or Bluetooth), if you're on the phone, they will be able to hear it, and if you have your phone bluettooth sync'd to the stereo for phone calls, yea, good luck when that beeper kicks in.

Is it safe, if you're an idiot sure, it will make you safer, if you know how to drive, it will be annoying as hell and make you less safe because it's so annoying.

The guy scalding us for not enjoying all the computer gadgets wresting control from the drivers is an example of why we as a nation are overregulated over protected and under motivated. Relinquishing power to machines and big brother is demeaning to society and the individual. We are headed for the world of Demolition Man.

On a very practical note. If I get paid by the mile and am limited in the time I am allowed to drive, does it make a difference to me whether I can cruise at 70 and accelerate to maintain position rather than 65? Or when confronted by a slow moving object I am compelled to slow to await an opportunity to pitifully crawl past it if and when the traffic clears?

Does reducing everyone to the lowest common denominator elevate the population to its highest potential or are we chopping off the heads of the wheat to keep the field level? .. (Credit C.S. Lewis)

its not too bad after you train yourself to jam the fuel pedal near the top of small hills.

I don't disagree. My question is why do "we" tolerate it?

Simple solution...work for a higher rate, that way you don't have to work your ### off to earn a good living. And if you get behind a slowpoke...it doesn't hurt the wallet as bad.
