It’s not so much a ‘trick ‘ but it’s in my nature. I’ll always ask cashiers/waitresses/servers - or anyone, “How are YOU?”.

Gal at the local grocery store - new - looked very sad one day. I had a quick conversation about how sh**ty people were - after observing rude customers. Turns out she’s fairly sensitive and perceptive. Consciousness can be a curse for the young.

She lights up every time I go in there now. For no other reason than the fact I helped her deal with a bad first day on the job. Buddy from Chicago was here last week, we were arguing about paying for groceries - I commanded the credit card machine - he hands me cash. So I gave the cash to her. She about fainted. “Nah - take it, it’s a tip”.

Got to a receiver the other week. Nobody’s interested in me. A Mexican guy comes my way. Limping. First question -

“Man - what did you do to your foot?”

    Surgery, he tells me.

Then proceeds to be the most helpful guy you’ve ever met. Backs me in a spot, let’s me know where facilities are, when the crew arrives etc.

    It doesn’t take much.

I recall my Dad telling a story to someone of when I was a boy - said I was the smallest kid in school, but befriended much larger kids. Alliances - he said.

I think I learned my empathy from him. Mum was a bit snotty and racist. Dad worked with all types - was known to love a good laugh above almost everything else.

    Feel good rant over.

Back to posting nasty hateful stuff.

Ask humblepie if I can talk and bs lol.

I like to joke around too. Last night I went to Ghengis Grill for a make you're own stirfry. Sat at the bar and the short fat bartender girl didnt really talk to me that much and I was the only one at the bar with most of the restaurant empty as well.

So I finish my bowl and Ive left one lone red chili pepper in it. She finally comes over and asks if Im good. I reply "yea but there was this one chili pepper that got mixed in and Im allergic" she looks at me and kinda stumbles with "uhh what all kind of umm chicken..." as I cut her off and pop it into my mouth and eat it and start laughing. She yells out "omg!" and walks away. Im laughing as she turns around and goes "you @$$hole! You scared the hell out of me for a second!!" She had to catch her breath an didnt really know what else to say.

Made my whole day right there.

I’m with ya on that, I got nailed a couple years ago with a 27 on, in the wrong lane running a little fast. The DOT cop was PO’d when he got me stopped. I cracked a couple of jokes he finally dropped his head a laughed, after that he was cool. I ended up getting let go with a clean inspection.

However we’ve all met that guy at the fuel counter line or lunch counter that just wants to talk about nothing. I don’t want to be that guy to another person.

Oh you wanna throw someone off their game for a second?

When you're at a place before the person behind the counter can say anything, go "Hi welcome to *insert where you're at* how are you today?"

    Always good for a smile.

I try to do similar things, I dated a girl for about 3 years. After we were apart fir a few years we ran into each other and had a couple of drinks. She told me that when we first started dating it embarrassed her but after we broke up she started doing it and was amazed at how people responded. I try to be a nice guy despite my demeanor on here sometimes.

One of those old words of wisdom type post I read years ago said it was because cold water would cause fats in the stomach to solidify making them harder to move throughout the system. How much of that was bs I couldn't tell you.

I like to stand at the door to restaurants and open the door to folks and exclaim

“WELCOME TO “wherever “ HOW MAY WE SERVE YOU TODAY?!”

Always gets a giggle. No wonder I can’t be taken places more than once, the second time is usually to apologize.
