There’s something else about FedEx that bears mentioning.
They have some kind of screwball policy about the 30 minute break. For city drivers they want it done between the 3rd and 5th hours.

I know in Denver on linehaul at FXF you better be out before or on time with your gate or better be in the shop or management will be calling you asking you what’s going on.

Averitt requires their drivers to take lunch between the 4th and 6th hour. Also by doing that it prevents drivers to either finish the route or prevents them from picking up freight.
keep in mind averitt drivers get about 12 to 14 deliveries 10 miles apart from each stop.

3th and 6th for Hourly City Drivers, 8th for Road Drivers.
The reason FX does this is because many states and locales have different break laws for drivers that don't cross interstate and this is in place to blanket the country's compliance with break periods. California, Washington and Oregon have policy specific break period mandates but I don't know what they are.Last edited: Jan 29, 2019

In CA you must take a 30 min break before your 5th hour begins and before your 10th hour begins. The 10th hour rule applies if you know you'll exceed 12 hours. If not and you punch out (it's hourly there) before your 12th hour you're fine. However you couldn't always predict ahead of time how long exactly you'd be out so it was always a guessing game. Typical retarded California thinking.....

Chicagoland sucks for new road drivers because there’s 3 large hubs all within 40 miles of each other. So you usually end up with a 10-60 mile one way drive then work the dock for 4-5 hours and your short drive back to your service center. You can luck out and fall into a decent bid but it’s not the norm. You just gotta put some time in to move up in seniority. They are typically needing drivers but it’s hard to find experienced drivers to fill those very short runs. Out of my service center we can’t keep anyone on the shortest run we have. It’s been pretty much open for a year now.
