So my guy at Trillium asked me to fill in for a few days. Said all I had to do was unhook some stuff. I show up and it's a step deck flatbed with crushed boxes 8 feet high. I've got 3 bad disks, but told them I would try. Got to Stevenson, Al and started to take tension off. Had one so screwed up I bent the end of the pole. Then one strap got caught in the crush of the boxes. Tow motor guy really helped out. I rolled up 7 straps 20 feet long. Took me 1.5 hours start to finish. Kicked my tail but good. You guys deserve as much pay as you can get. That is one labor intensive job.
Newfound respect

LOL...Try untarping, rolling up fifteen straps, folding and rolling your tarps, tieing down your dunnage, and putting everything away. At night. With no yard lights. In the rain with wind gusts up to thirty knots. After having driven all day and chaining up twice.
That was Friday evening for one of our guys. He's 68 years old. Never heard a word of complaint and everything was done right and up to standard.
He'll be retiring next year. I don't think we'll be able to replace him.D.Tibbitt, FoolsErrand, cke and 11 others Thank this. -
I'm 67. Wasn't sure I was going to see 68. But besides the bad disks, I'm having breathing problems. Docs cant seem to find it. Certainly didnt make it any easier. My hats off to that guy.Last edited: Feb 18, 2019

Lots of little tricks ya gotta learn for flatbed. Strap winders make rollin up straps quick and easy.
Folding up huge lumber tarps? Do it where its slightly inconvenient for others. You get someone to help ya out pretty quick lol. This works about 1 out of 5x's for me. Most of the time I get told to park in the street and untarp way out of the way.
Have a routine for how you do things. It makes everything go quicker.D.Tibbitt, cke, LoneCowboy and 3 others Thank this. -
Maybe not the freeway. But kinda in the forklift operators way, and as soon as you get it laid out they'll help ya fold it real quick like usually.
