They make sleeping bags up to like -50 or something crazy. You get one for 2 people you can stick your microwave and your tv in there and zip yourself in.
Depending on how cold it is I usually don’t idle down to 28 anything under that I idle don’t want those truck freezing problems.

It’s -10 right now my truck is off only cuz I’m inside the diner eating/shower. And it’s still in the back of my head like please don’t freeze please don’t freeze lol

idle at the low end of high idle and you'll be fine.

3 yrs on a 2016 f/liner, Cummins, idling when hot or cold out.

    and I idle a lot.

no problems with DEF at all.

A while back the Midwest had a couple of weeks of brutal cold, we're talking 10-15 degrees below zero at night.

I'd sleep with a 12v electric blanket, in sweat pants and a hoody. Double normal blankets. Sometimes I'd be so hot I'd have to turn the electric off. Wake up an hour early to fire the truck up and jump back under those blankets. Even now I'll often not have any heat in the truck, and thats with an APU and a Webasto bunk heater.

This is what it takes to be a owner operator.
Freezing to death because you can't afford to
    Idle the truck.

Get a electric blanket, they sell them at
    The truck stops.
    Plugs into your cigarette lighter.
Be warned it sucks a lot of juice out
    Of your batteries.

Every 4 or 5 hours I would get up and
Idle the truck for an hour, then shut it back off.
    But that's Stone Age stuff.

In my case, it isn’t because I can’t afford it, it’s because I am cheap! High income and living like a homeless is the way to go! I want to retire at an early age.

For those who haven’t already done so. Read The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley (Ph.D.) and William D. Danko (Ph.D.). Your financial life will never be the same. For folks who want an easier read, try The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.

So I slept for about 6 hrs without idling. The top bunk was at about 27 degrees when I got up. Outside was about 10 degrees. I must say it was not very bad, but I wouldn’t do it again. I think quality sleep is more important. Maybe if my sleeping bag was rated to zero degrees, it may have been more comfortable. Mine is rated to 40 degrees.

I did end up idling the truck for about an hour. It’s tough to move around the truck when it’s very cold.
