    NEWSFLASH for the Naive:

They don’t care if you quit after six years. They don’t care if you quit after six months. They don’t care if you quit after six weeks. They don’t care if you quit after six days. They don’t care if you quit after six hours. They don’t care if you quit after six minutes. They don’t care if you quit after six seconds.

    That’s their business model.

Step 1 - Get some unsuspecting schmuck, some dim witted mope, some felon out of prison, some walking, drooling, vegetable, anything or anyone with a pulse.

Step 2 - Work the indentured servant until the poor bastige realizes he’s being played for a schmuck and quits.

    Step 3 - Repeat steps 1 & 2

You got it all wrong with the mega's.
How much you want to work is irrelevant.
    It's a straight numbers game.

There's no way they can keep 15,000 trucks
    Loaded and rolling everyday.

They could have 200 loads coming out of any
Big city on a Monday for example.
But they had 50 trucks get unloaded in the
Area over the weekend that are waiting for
Loads, and another 250 to get empty on Monday.

That means their short a 100 loads on Monday.
So somebody is gonna be sitting till Tuesday if
Not Wednesday waiting for a load.

Everybody that comes in after Monday just pushes
    The line back even further.
They just line them up as the empty calls
    Come in.

    Huge difference between a 7am and a 3 pm
    Delivery times.
Late appointment time could easily put you
Behind another 100 trucks that got empty in
    The area ahead of you.

Of course when things are good it could
    Be completely opposite.
They might be short a hundred trucks on a
    Given day.
Then everybody's getting loaded and making money.

Way,way, way, back in the day. Like the early 90's.
When jb hunt was still a OTR company.
If you asked, they would tell you a plus or minus
On the loads of the area you were going too.

Plus 50 meant they had 50 more loads than trucks.
You knew you were gonna keep right on rolling.

Minus 50 meant they had 50 more trucks than loads.
You could plan on having a day off.
I doubt any of these companies tell their drivers
    Any of this stuff anymore.
Better to keep them in the dark.

    speedyk and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

While you may be right, 1990's was 79 million (79,000,000) people ago in the U.S. alone. Seems kinda small, but i doubt very very much that a company like swift is going to take a hit like not having frieght to move. They didnt become this big, buy telling 50 trucks to hunker down till wednesday.

Maybe thats why swift is still otr and jb is local?

I know of several that pay 100% of the premium [employee only amount] after x number of years. Carrier I work for starts this after 2 years employment.

A lot of larger corporations (aka, self insured) offer it for free. Large corporations, even the ones that require employees to pay a percentage of their insurance, are self insured. They only contract with Blue Cross, United, or whomever, to administrate the plan. 100% of the cost of the employees’ healthcare comes out of the company’s pocket.

Some recoup a small percentage of the cost from the employees. Regardless, the company writes off whatever they pay for healthcare on their taxes.
