I've bounced between OTR and local more times than I care to imagine, and am about to do it again. Yes, you may work a lot of hours and not have much time at home each day as a local, but... YOU ARE home each day. No fighting for a parking spot late at night and possibly having to pay (up to $15 in some places) to park. No showering in small closet-like spaces that you can't truly be sure have been cleaned properly, no taking care of the morning business in a restroom that hasn't been cleaned since the previous night, etc.

The downside of OTR seems to be increasing each time I take another run at it, which is why I'm actually looking at going back local (or even perhaps back to bus driving).

Some things that I have noticed.

Petros are generally the best and cleanest place to shower. TA are the same company, and the showers are set up mostly the same, and tend to be clean, but many TA's are simply ancient, and the shower fixtures barely dribble water.

Everywhere else is either too small, poorly cleaned, or do not provide a place to sit down when dressing.

Sapp Brothers is an exception. Their showers, at least the ones I have been in, have been hands-down better than anywhere else. But there aren't many of them left.

Flying J and Pilot have the best internet in their lots.

Loves have the best prices for non-food truck needs. They also have the best points rewards systems.

TA /Petro/Sapp Brothers have the best food, generally, but a lot of them are moving to crap fast food rather than sit down food. Some Flying Js and Pilots have Dennys, which are okay.

If you cannot maintain a regular driving schedule, and most of us cannot, then the parking situation can be a pain.

Check with your company and see if they will pay for your parking. Steven's Transport did, a couple years ago when I left there. If they will, just a little extra trip planning and getting a few company apps to reserve parking can make a great deal of difference.

I don't see any travel allowance or per diem on w2. Does Crete pay any of that for company drivers?

I never needed a travel allowance. Cannot say.

Perdiem pay is a new offering that started about halfway through 2018.

They split pay, and between 12 and 14 cpm go to you as perdiem. The company keeps 1 com for administrative fees. It still saves you a large chunk of taxes.

Last time I was home, I still had not received my 2018 w2. I will post it next home time.

I am no longer a company driver with Crete, but I was through all of 2018.
