Nope, 453k, but doesnt surprise me if the solenoid went earlier than normal....just hope it's that easy. Kinda starting to question it now. Last night when I forced it to turn off, the ABS light and the service engine light came on (didnt mention it, but it did). They have both been on since, but since then the truck is turning off normal. I checked the relays and fuses in the clutch kick panel (I have 3 other fuse boxes but I was checking ignition stuff so I didnt check the rest) and everything in there is fine. Battery cables good at starter, but were corroded at batteries so I pulled them all and cleaned them. The lights are still on on the dash, no surprise. However, my ABS light is NOT on on the trailer. Not sure if it isnt working coincidentally, and maybe I blew the ABS fuse or something simple. My concern really is the service engine soon light, but hell, I'm due for an oil change, so maybe the filters are just clogged coincidentally too. Guess I will drive and see how she rides for a little bit.
Well you forced the engine to turn off its gonna throw fault codes. ABS light unplug the trailer power cord for 30 secs and replug back in. Should take care of it(Its a fault in the system from being turned off wrong lol). Its a real easy job to be honest if u got quick service(free) u can get the manual that shows step by step on how to replace it. I Wouldn't worry about those check engine lights right now. I'm betting its from forcing a turn off.
I tried unplugging the pigtail.... it didnt clear it. No big deal, not worried about the ABS, but I need to change the light on the trailer, it should still be lighting up and isnt, even when I bled the brakes down to check it. I will go through the fuses tonight. As far as changing the solenoid, as long as it's working again, I dont want to do that, but is there a way to check it? Forgive my ignorance, just never changed one, so not sure how to see if it's bad before I do.
If you already had one issue it's only gonna get worse. You can check the resistance on it. If that checks good then you might have rubbed a wire somewhere.
Mine went bad at 520k and, like Pete said, it will get worse. The solenoid is similar to an engine cylinder and piston. When you turn the key on the power turns the solenoid into an electro magnet and pulls the piston up the cylinder unblocking the fuel port. Key off and the spring washer pushes the piston back down blocking the fuel port. Since ULSD isn't a great lubricant the piston and cylinder wear and bind up. Turning the key off shuts off the fuel lift pump and, even if the solenoid hangs open, the engine will run out of fuel in a few minutes. Much kinder than stalling it. BTW, you can reset all of the computers including the ABS module by disconnecting the primary positive cable at the batteries and leaving it off for at least 15 minutes. As soon as my driver gets here I'll post a picture of the solenoid. Frank
