I called about a different place to lease my truck and trailer ,found out that I was the fifth Mercer to apply today

 

Did you call the agent as soon as you got to the point you knew you'd be delayed? I am relentless when it comes to trying to get detention. Get the agent involved and making phone calls, that involves the shipper sometimes also especially if they are the ones paying the freight. After the fact is to late, it's a done deal that you're not getting paid.

I'll sit all day if I know I'm being paid. The longest i every sat was 0600 Mon to 2200 Fri getting 125/hr detention for 12 hrs and 175 layover each night, plus hotel and meals covered. Best week I ever had!

 

Sadly, no I didn't. I've always been under the impression you'll only get detention at the shipper.

I will say though at the shipper I'm very adamant about it, soon as the 2 hour mark hits I immediately call.

Definitely wish I would have called today.

Atleast one bright side of being a O/O is we get to pick and choose where we go. This place will be added to my NO GO list...

Pretty ridiculous this place has a fleet of it's own so they know the importance of drivers being loaded and unloaded in a timely fashion.

 

Agents usually tell me they cant get detention at the receiver but i call them anyway. Have gotten it a couple times plus i figure its better to show wait times so they see how much it costs us.

 

Sounds like you may be dealing with some lazy agents. I have escalated the situation to truck operations if the agent just BS's me with that line.

 

Is your timeline at the receiver the same as the shipper that you start calling at? 2 hours right?
