I am in the market for a machine tarp to use on my RGN. 6 axle, 40 ton, 29 ft well.

I have a couple of 6' lumber tarps from my past life that are just not right for the job.
I'm thinking about carrying a 35 x 35 nylon tarp which I'm hoping will be a good all around solution. I'm told nylon is stronger and lighter than a traditional tarp. The cost is around $1,000.
Looking for any input or suggestions. THANKS!

That’s about 200 lbs in 18oz vinyl. Tri city canvas can make it in 13oz nylon with a poly waterproof coating that will make it much more manageable. They also sell thick felt that protects tarps very well.

As for the size, I guess it depends what you do. I don’t even know if flaps would make it easier for you.

I ordered the 13oz from tri city through LCAPP... it covers the 30ft in my well plus a few feet....
But it has flaps. I definitely wouldn’t get just one tarp to cover your well. I’d get like maybe. 19ft and 12ft in length(12 ft drops)

I’ve got a 32x32. 12 or 13oz vinyl. With 5 rows of d rings all the way around. It does a nice job, but it’s a mf’er to move around. I don’t use it but about once every 3 months. It’s one of those things you hate, but it does do it’s job

Get the felt - I’ve got a 60 by 40 lightweight and a 30 by 30 - the felt saves a ton of patching and damage. Tri City - Steve, they’ll hook you up.

So Nic. Did you buy a 19 and 12 for your setup? Or did you get just one?

    nikmirbre Thanks this.

I run a setup similar to yours. I haul alot of machines in steel crates out of the ports that need tarped.

I bought my tarps from Tri-city canvas and 3 rolls of felt and several moving blankets. It's a must for what I do. I have a 28x32 with a 12 foot flap, a 20x20 no flap and a 16x20 no flap. That's enough to tarp 95% of anything I tarp. I do like the light weight material tri-city uses, but if you dont use lots of padding and if you dont keep those tarps pulled tight it doesn't take much to destroy them.

I do have a 36x36 I only bring out if it's a piece that requires it, otherwise I leave it at home.

cke, Hegemeister and nikmirbre Thank this.

I’ve had that felt pierce right through on a 90 degree steel edge, nothing ‘that’ sharp. I still like it though just don’t think it will keep your tarps perfect all the time.
