The only times I have ever dealt with DOT was in CA, CO, OR, AZ, and SD.
CA: Pulled in for level 1. Was over bridge but everything else ok, let me slide tandems and reweigh. Lady doing inspection was business only but not rude. No problems.
CO: Was a new truck that hadnt been through the state, so they wanted to see the paperwork. Polite and no problem
OR: Had expired paperwork, was let go and warned that the next scale(Bend) prob wouldnt be so kind. They were polite about it. Got the paperwork faxed and was good to go for Bend.
AZ: Just a paperwork check since I didnt have it ready at the window.
SD: Random log book inspection at a rest area. Easy to deal with.

Man, it feels like Im leaving feedback on eBay!

CT has been tough on the scales lately but I can usually find parking there. MA bears can be rude but usually don't mess with you too much. Never had a problem in NY with the bears but I usually don't have to park there so I can't tell you about the parking there. My home state of NJ doesn't have much parking but they will give you 1,000 lbs. at the scales. PA is getting tough with the idling thing and now that the weather is getting nicer the bears are coming out of the trees and working over the trucks more. I was delivering to a dealer in Lancaster, PA the other week and 2 local bears were working over a container hauler at the end of the driveway that I had to back into. The one cop had his legs out on the center line while he was under the tandems checking the brakes. I thought someone was going to come by and run them over!! I hustled to get my cars checked in before the bears had a chance to point to me and say"You're next." MD is working everywhere anymore. They've been working hard at the Ft. McHenry tunnel doing inspections even on Sunday.

the Plain Wrapper Mustang GT's also patrol the eastside of I-70 between I-465 and I-65 too..seen many people nabbed by them there..also I-70 by Terre Haute, usually one sittin in the median as soon as you go around that corner just past exit 7 heh

no doubt about it, illinios is the worst state in the union, I never have trouble in any of the rest of them but the troopers in illinios are morons, I was actually stopped there once for holding up traffic (I was doing the posted speed limit of 55, no ticket but given a verbal warning, but the idiot would not give me written permission to exceed the speed limit either)
I have never met a friendly person there either, truckstops, shippers recievers or the average joe, they are all to a person rude and hateful and arrogant
I have said it before and it bears repeating, illinios should be kicked out of the union, maybe we can pay mexico to take them?

not to mention they are one of the worst offenders when it comes to your civil rights, this state has an over abundance of laws restricting your constitutional rights
I spend no money there at all, I won't buy fuel food or anything just to keep from putting my hard earned money in their pockets
I try to avoid picking up and delivering loads to that state as well

and I never even mentioned the extremely unsafe and unfair split speed limits, but they are not the only state that does this

any state with cops whose job it is to harass one class of people only is an unfriendly state
why are there no special cops for airline pilots, or accountants or lawyers or convienence store clerks?
all these people use the roads and endanger far more people than any truckdriver I have ever met

Add NC to the list. I just went through a level 1, and the officer was polite and gave me a break when he found I fumbled a split sleeper berth and went over my 14 by 2 hrs. Im sure it would have been a large fine, but I wasnt cited. He reminded me of Gary Busey from Point Break. :biggrin_25517:
Out of all my interactions with DOT, theyve all been great so I guess the answer to the thread title is "I dont know yet". Im sure it helps to have a positive attitude going in.
