No idea where I could even do that. Even when i had authority it took a lot of work to finally find a place that would rent me vans. Also all my tarps, straps, dunnage, and tons of other equipment is on my trailer and it is 180 miles away. I'm going to make some calls Monday but talking to some local guys the prices they are talking about will make it not worth doing. Short term rentals in many cases have rates way too expensive. I talked to one place the other day and they wanted a minimum three month contract.

Can a fabricating shop make you one or does it have to be be from manufacturer?
-
How were they able to tell during your inspection that that plate needed replacement? I'm assuming the trailer was hooked? I've heard from a couple different folks here that a couple of the inspection locations make you drop the trailer... Was the case here?

If its something you want to look into you might check with contractor relations. They told me once that some guys rented conestogas a couple years back for loads that required them.roshea Thanks this.

It depends on the load. I pull out of tallmadge quite often, some loads require full tarps and some just a smoke tarp. -
I had to do that in December. 300$ for the plate at a machine shop, 100$ for the new pin and about 500$ in oxygen, acetylene, welding rod and electricity. I rate the burn from the slag that fell past my collar a little higher.Last edited: Mar 30, 2019
whoopNride and roshea Thank this. -
The plate is wider and longer than the fifth wheel. Simply a matter of going under the trailer at the rear tires of the truck and shining a flashlight. Just like you would check to make sure you hooked up good.popcorn169 Thanks this.

Welding is so much fun especially when a little ball of hot metal falls down your collar and you can't get it out quick enough.

I just want to know how it can go in your shirt collar and end up at your toes. But the worse is when it falls in your ear. That really gets your attention. I REALLY hate welding above my head.popcorn169 Thanks this.
