We run 2 ways and cant get out for #### but they are only direct. If they have a repeater then it works pretty well. Ours are the same kenwood the county uses for police and fire but they have 3 repeaters around the county to be able to talk to one another.

I had to type this a couple times to try to get my intent across, still not sure I've done it.
I personally respect the hand who will get stuff done that benefits not only him, but the company, without any unnecessary belly aching.
That being said, I respect the same hand, even more, who will set boundaries with the boss (in my case, me). The hard working hand who will tell me, "I need a little break", or "I made plans with my wife/family, etc. and can't do that" will always get cut some slack. He's proven himself.
You've said you and your wife have some short term goals of getting a house, starting a family, etc. Work hard toward those, but don't lose sight of the long term goals of being able to enjoy your home and family. If you're the "pushover, yes man", this will be harder to do.
I'm not trying to be condescending or rain on your parade, but I tell you this from personal experience. I have a lot of regrets while my kids were young and as my marriage went along. I wanted to be the "Go To" guy, to make sure I always had work. Part of that came from needing to provide during my daughter's cancer and later, plain greed. Looking back, it was a mistake.
Be the "Go To" guy, but don't be afraid to say "No" once in a while. -
Drove by there a couple weeks ago. Man they got a yard full of purty trucks.

I finally broke down and bought a stihl weed eater several years ago. Other than cracking the string advance button on the bottom, it's been great. My old chainsaw is an early 80's 032 farm boss with a 16" bar. Put in fresh fuel and it will start in 4-5 pulls, no matter how long it has sat.

This is so true.... @1951 ford I couldn't agree more

Very well said.

Well said.
Ultimately the reason why I’m happier being my own boss too - after a while (too long really), I finally credited myself as ‘better than average ‘ and was worth more than any employer deserved.
Can’t speak from ‘family man’ perspective - no children, always respect those who have family to support.
Never see a Brinks van in the funeral procession.cke, Westbound23, BigBob410 and 23 others Thank this. -
I emailed Cleveland brothers and I’ll try a couple others like you’ve mentioned. But after the conversations I had yesterday I’m not optimistic.

Amen.
