I currently run mileage but i would prefer percentage , being that flatbed we get less miles because we have more work to do outside of the truck, i feel alot of my time is underpaid.. But that could be an issue with my company rather than an issue with the pay type... But saying that, id rather chase money than chase miles, i get worn out easy if im chasing 500 miles day for a whole week, its hard for me to do that. And it seems alot of the loads my company gives me is stuff 700 miles or less,.. I never really have a run over 1000 miles so if i have to tarp and untarp , depending what it is, if im only goin a couple hundred miles, i could spend more time securing and tarping than actually driving so in that situation it sucks to be paid mileage.. But i guess it also depends how much money the company is making off each load or it would be pointless to get percentage if ur company is hauling cheap freight. I guess it comes down to personal preference or what lanes ur company is running

I paid percentage to my drivers. I also didn't mess with short loads unless they were well worth the time, the same with tarps.

mileage = all loads are average
percentage = some bad loads, some average loads, and some great loads.

You learn lanes and rates, income should be much better under percentage

How do you know for sure how much the load pays? Are you taking someone’s word as truth? My first thought about percentage is “how easy is it to get cheated on these loads?” I’ve never done percentage so I don’t know...... but these questions were always on my mind when I started thinking about percentage.....

Federal law states you have a right to see the rate con for any load you pull under a percentage contract.

Under mileage you do not have that right.

Well with mileage you KNOW your being shorter miles. With percentage, they will tell you what loaf pays. You can do the math real quick. If it doesnt pay enough turn it down. All companies I no of provide you a copy of the invoice with your settlement. Of course they could always manipulate it. Bottom line know what load pays before you do it, and either accept that rate or turn it down.
