I drive a mixer truck in the Birmingham Al area. I still consider myself new becasue of only starting back in Oct of 18. We have to do a lot of night pours and most of the time on the jobsite lighting is terrible. I bought a 20 in amber/white dual color led light bar that can alternate from just amber to bright white and put it in the lowe bumper on the front. The shop manager told me i needed to take it off because I didnt have an amber light permit.... The light was either on or off amd pointed so that it lit uo only about 30ft in front of the truck so as to night blind our other drivers in site. After doing some research amber or white in alabama is permitted but does not apply to the move over law, only permit i could find was for GA and that was only if it is a flashing amber light right?
Sorry for such the long post but I dont want to take it off because of how much ut helps on jobsites but if it truly is "illegal" to run it I dont wamt to get a ticket.

I assume the truck belongs to them and your just one of those guys who wants to use your paycheck and deck out their truck.

If that is the case then the shop manager has the authority to take your amber light off. Regardless of whether or not it is legal or illegal I would just take it off. You dont want other drivers pissed off at you over a light.

I used to drive a mixer and I seen other drivers using a spotlight they bought at Walmart for when they needed to see.

Legality isn't the main issue here. Your shop wants the light off. Don't aggravate the shop.

The GA amber light permit is to avoid needing a pilot car on some of the smaller oversized loads. It allows you to substitute a beacon light in place of a pilot car. Basically it’s BS.

Georgia is weird, unless they have changed it is illegal not to have covers on your beacons in georgia. They probably have a permit for them too, I never needed one there though.

This is what the Georgia dot told me..No permit for flashing ambers is $350 and the truck driver is responsible for the escort vehicle not having a permit so $700 to the truck driver. Thank you mister DOT man for not making my wallet lighter.

Don't ask us. Go talk to your boss. Explain why you want it. Explain that the shop foreman wants it off, but you do not understand why, since it seems to be legal.

In the end, it's going to be the top of your company food chain that makes the call.

EDIT: Be polite and respectful. Don't bad-talk the shop.
