A Couple's Journey With CFI

Trainco Day 11
I finally got my alley dock and the rest of my drive time in today. The instructors are impressed with how far both of us have come in these two weeks. Out of everyone in the class we were the only ones who had no experience of any kind. It feels good to have made this progress and I got a mock pretrip test and in general passed. I made a few mistakes because I was not familiar with the in cab controls and the truck only has one set of tires instead of two but we have to pretend it has duals.

 

Trainco Day 12
So we graduated today and got red velvet sheet cake. It was pretty good and I normally don't like cake. But after the week we had I wanted it. I got my in cab down finally but I made a silly mistake and failed it but I won't repeat it come Monday. My fiance finally got her manuevrs down but she is still shakey on pretrip. So we are studying this weekend. We test in the evening so when we go to the school tomorrow morning with everyone we will have several hours to cram before the exam as well.

 

Well we tested yesterday and both of us passed our pre-trips. Unfortunately we both did not pass our manuevrs. We both went into our final skill with no points accumulated but we didn't make it. We both got parallel. She just struggled and I got into my own head and gave up. It sucked and I am over it now but we are going to spend the rest of the week practicing. We retest Monday.

 

Quite a crazy day. Ya'll must not be working hard enough if they want us over there right away. Both my fiancé and I passed our exams today. The testing center was slammed today so my fiance had to wait all day. I got to go first thing and I only got 2 points on my maneuvers and scored under 20 points for my road test. She barely passed her maneuvers but she passed so that's what matters. Apparently they wanted us there right away so we got whisked away to the hotel to pack for an hour before we were taken to the airport for a rental car to drive all the way to Joplin. I drove over half of the 11 hours there and I turned the wheel over to my fiance and the other CFI guy who also passed today. Three of us in a tiny prius with all of our stuff.

 

This is definitely true. That greydog ride from Virginia to Perrysburg was not pleasant. We got here safely but had a hiccup with the accommodations as usual so we are waiting for an availabile room. After we get our stuff in the room my fiancé and I will take the car back to the airport and take a shuttle back here to the hotel.

Ya, we are really excited. A lot of people were rooting for her. Hopefully things go smoothly while we are here and all. Sounds like going to get our actual CDL card may be a bit of a pain but hopefully that works out.

Yep, we are really looking forward to getting to work out there and onto our own truck. One step at a time for now though.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Let's just say it wasn't a good day when we got here. The usual hiccups along the way but I am now learning to expect them and to just roll with the punches. We finished two days of orientation here in Joplin now. We are both feeling really good about the company so far. I feel a lot better about our decision to come to CFI over one of those other guys.

The wrapped truck thing was today and those were pretty cool looking. Glad we got to be apart of it. It is kind of surreal seeing us walking around on video and our faces in the picture on the company Facebook page. We got some issues to take care of but we will be talking to someone tomorrow about them and find the best way to resolve them as quickly as possible so we can get onto a finisher's truck asap.
