Yea, but at the amount they under bid us, I am surprised they make any profit at all. They under bid us by 30%+ and started not charging for empty miles out of Canada on their fixed frame double drop glass trailers. Their drivers don't make that much less than us, so they have to cut corners somewhere.

    Can't beat'em, join them.
Everybody gets underbid. You know that.
    Big and small.
    These companies are chasing pennies.

Let me translate that article: "Here at Maverick, we are primarily a flatbed company. We began that way and need to revert back to our roots. Reefer isn't making us any money any longer. We do not have the customer base that the KLLM has. Those guys down there in Jackson only worry about reefer freight. Loads have become difficult to come by if we dont have a large customer base so we scrapping reefer, and back to what we know best. To our reefer drivers, we are sorry to do this but your going to love it down there. There are a bunch of terrific people in Jackson. Good luck in your future endeavors."

Lot of companies do that and under bid in an attempt to try to take the contract away that may get more than they can handle start having service issues and eventually they lose it back to the company that originally had it...

Usually by small amounts, but cutting rates by 1/3? Under bidding is one thing, but they're gonna have some serious cost cutting to stay profitable cutting that much. They raised their rates last year to keep up with the costs of operation, maybe selling their reefer assets will allow them to afford that large of a cut and stay profitable since they weren't making money pulling reefers.

Or maybe they didn't undercut by much and or at all and instead your company tried to increase rates and are telling you what they want you to hear.

If anybody knows anything about Maverick hauling glass it is that they don't do it cheap. It's why the shippers keep trying to get more competition every time another company gets bought out.
