Final day of Orientation here in Joplin. It was pretty short. Mostly a tour of the Driver's Building thing and a brief overview of PeopleNet. Otherwise we signed on officially and received our badges.

I wish we could stay to wait for a finisher but we gotta go back to Virginia so that we can get our CDL's so hopefully that is a speedy process but due to the dmv being closed this Monday for a holiday, I am not holding my breath.

We will be taking a greydog back to Virginia tomorrow so we are super not excited for that part. We are glad to be apart of the team now can't wait to be on that finisher's truck to get those wheels turning, both on the truck and in my brain.

There is so much to tell. It has been a whirlwind of constant rushing the last two weeks. When we arrived back in Virginia we spent some time with my family and went to the dmv when they opened up on Tuesday after the holiday. Well our results still weren't in from our test the previous Monday. So we had to keep coming into town and checking and I managed to get mine on Wednesday, she had to wait till Thursday. After that we made our way back to our the place we had been staying at and finished getting things taken care of. I contacted the company as I was told on Thursday and again on Friday to make sure we were doing what we were supposed to. I was told to call back this past Monday. I did and they got us a rental car out here to Joplin and we arrived in the morning worn out from being up over 24 hours in our hurry to get here. They had finishers ready for us. She got to leave yesterday with her finisher to get a load to Calexico. My finisher had some unfinished business that was resolved that day. Today my finisher put me through the ropes doing some backing maneuvers.

I don't think his teaching style will mesh well with me but I don't want to stir the pot. I have a lot to learn from him and I want to do my best to absorb all I can from him. I am just worried about letting him down and myself. I feel super unprepared for all of this.

The only thing I got left today is to help him finish setting his truck back up and move my stuff into it to settle in. I am going to do my best to be a courteous house guest in his space. We will be going on the board tomorrow he said. So hopefully we can get these wheels turning so I can start getting paid. I just hope I will be prepared at the end of this process.

It's 3 weeks. Ignore how he says it and focus on what he says. Go do what you need to do. Get it done!

Ya we agree with the above sentiment. We have no choice but to make this work. It isn't a lot of time to learn all of the intricacies of this job it seems. This is way beyond what I am familiar with or used to. I just feel like whatever I get told is going in one ear and out the other and that concerns me being able to retain all of this information he is trying to teach me.

By no means is about me getting along with the guy. It is more of a concern of me being ready I guess. There is much I have to learn and I am pushing so hard to try to retain everything I am being told and shown.

Write down whatever seems most important. You’re going to learn some hard lessons your first year or so in your own. Don’t hit anything and don’t hurt anyone.

I am definitely going to remain extremely cautious. I have been taking notes but I am quickly finding out that I need to up my note taking game and take a different approach. I am going to grab a fresh pad from Walmart tonight and see if I can organize these notes a bit better so I can do my best to memorize and absorb what I am being told and shown.

It is our main goal to earn a solid reputation of being safe and dependable drivers, especially in this first year where we are so new. We are both working very hard.
