Doing your job correctly is the minimum. In any business it’s the extras. Yes I use donuts. For some people it’s remembering their name, or thanking them for their work. Greasing the skids is about what you can do that ethically will get you ahead and remembered. I visit one place that never seems to have pens. I brought the woman a box of cheap ### bic pens and a nice $4 one from Staples. She was overjoyed and now I seem to go to the front of the line.

As I said doing your job is the bare minimum. Your deliverables are given, but it’s what you do beyond that that gets you the next step.

Pretty much every company of every type is going to have favorites, sometimes it will be kin, friends or just brown nosers, generally just doing your job each and every time, no matter what is thrown your way without complaint gets you up as close to the front of the line as possible.
Just being the one they know they can depend on is usually all a guy needs, now sometimes companies, maybe without realizing it will start more or less taking advantage of you, while lessor hands gets a pass, but like my dad said I hired you to do your best, not their best.

Sometimes it's better not be the average person not suggestion I am better in any way but lets face it who wouldn't want be one the boss good side hell even the dispatcher good loads right?

My brother is a perfect example this the dude can be your best bud rather easy he's very good on his people skills unlike over half the truckers I know. Anyways long story short he lost his CDL due him not fully understanding alcoholic is genetic too and drinking with the devil and driving don't mix. Best part because he was great friends with his co-workers and people around him in the oil field he got on as a surveyor. 2 years later became a party chief after that he left the surveyor company for oil field help direct pipe laying as operation manager in NM. makes more than he ever did as a trucker and all because he grease the wheels the right way.

I know people and know my worth and furthermore, in a few years, I will be out the industry entirely it more an uphill slough for me taking formal education is like pins and needles. But back on hand screw everyone you are in the race yourself put money on yourself if you need have a few parties with certain people move up who gives a crap.

I'm not telling anyone, that's not right to do, but the point is you have to promote your business and do it in a respectful manner to those who provide the work to you.

I take a dozen donuts and some coffee to the bulkloaders at one of the cement Mills I load at on a regular basis. I do that about once a week, and they never make a mess on my truck or trailer. Which means a bunch to me because I'm the clown that has to wash this thing once it gets covered in cement.

Others go in that place with an attitude, because they are kinda slow loading trucks, and they usually get buried.
