Every company with "free training" requires a contract period where you work as a driver. Usually that contract period is 12 months, some are 15 months. Some contracts say you cannot work for another trucking company but the one you contract with for that contract period. Many contracts require you to re-pay the cost of CDL school if you don't fulfill the contract period. Some companies with "free training" are good and some are not. NEVER PLAN TO ACCEPT FREE TRAINING WHILE PLANNING TO LEAVE EARLY. Make long-term decisions to achieve long-term success.

what school gave you the training
can you pass a drug test
what's your employment history
what's your criminal history
what's your driving history.
Some companies only hire newbies from certain schools or from schools they are familiar with. Find an employer, then decide about getting the license. Maye 50% of trucking companies have Tuition Reimbursement for new drivers.tportTX11 Thanks this. -
Well, I enrolled in a good training school self-paid. I am glad I did. I am getting the 160 hours of training and now I now that these truck rental places are crooks. I had no idea how difficult passing your CDL road test was. I am in my second week and doing well but still have a lot to learn. Thank you all so much for your replies. I am sorry I am a little late getting back to you. But then again I have been training hard. Learning the pre-trip. And my gosh backing up straight 53' trailer was a steep learning curve for me.
On another note, now I am looking for a good local job. I applied for my TWIC card and am planning to get all my endorsements upon graduation in about 3 weeks.
I hope somebody reads this help with the next step of the process of getting my first job. Someone posted Labbot I applied for it and have not heard back. I also applied for Sysco this past weekend and got an acknowledgment on my application waiting to see if I get an interview from either one of these companies.
The training school brings in all of these mega carries who want you but they are all OTR type jobs. I really want to avoid them at all cost if I can help it. They pay low and look and feel like sweatshops to me. I want a local job. I have also made some good connections at some decent companies like YRC.
I welcome any other suggestions in helping me get my first job. I ultimately like to get a little experience and learn the Trucking ecosystem and see if I can buy me a truck and drive locally.SHOJim Thanks this. -

Almost any 160 hr. school is sufficient.
Some companies have select schools they hire from, but most don't care which school.
