It used to be a right not to wear a seat belt. Then they said it only a ticket if they stop you for something else. Now it's a reason to stop someone and write a ticket.
When I was a kid we did not have to wear seatbelts. We would even ride our bikes without a helmet. We were outlaws. Ha ha -
By the way here a seatbelt ticket in a personal vehicle is $50 and in a commercial vehicle its $220. Yes i've had both. I had a DOT officer ask me if I was wearing it, and good little honest boy that I am I said no so he wrote me up. I still don't always wear it.
Uhh no cops on here right?? -

Interestingly most comments here appear to suggest many truckers don’t buckle up. This poll is probably a bit more accurate as the other one was posted by a staff member. We all tend to be more careful about our answers when speaking to people of authority (for lack of a better word). We tend to be more honest when speaking among friends or acquaintances.

Those who comment. But those who have answered the poll, 74.5 of us wear it all the time.
I started in 1984. My friend an I were discussing them at the 405/5 split in El Toro. There had been a hardon collision in the median on the 405, and my friend, being a wannabe cop insisted that we go and help. I did not see how there could be survivors, but there were, and they both were wearing. After that, I always wear them. -
I think the way of also looking at it, is that if you’re buckled up, it will feel like a very intense roller coaster ride. Without it, you’re bouncing all over the place, probably breaking numerous bones and perhaps even flying out the vehicle where who knows what you will collide with. In the end, you’re waiting in a hospital bed for the doctor to tell you what kind of disability you’ll end up with—for the rest of your life. It’s sad, and to think this case is repeating every single day to someone here in the US, is even sadder.
Please people, buckle up! If not for yourself, do it for your family. They want you to be safe and functional.Last edited: Jun 21, 2019
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I really could care less but just to clear something up. Some think it is a right to choose from. It’s the law not a choice. I have plenty other things to worry about though.

I remove mine when I get off the interstate and am about to make a bunch of intercity turns.
Once I’m on the highway at cruising speed, I buckle back up. Quite frankly, I feel naked without it. 20 years ago I seldom wore it. -
I read, the biggest cause of fatalities with unsecured occupants, is being ejected from the vehicle. It's why most seat belt usage saves lives. In a truck, with 40K pounds behind you, not much going to save you. Fact is, you might fare better being thrown out.
HoneyBadger67, Concorde and Cat sdp Thank this.
