True, just used it as an illustration to show that the input shaft is moving when the engine is running until the clutch pedal is depressed.

35 yrs ago wow I am dated. I worked at a IH dealer. We had a Cummins inframe special going on.I started in the morning , tore it down , checked the counterbores etc. Installed new liners ,rolled in new bearings and went home. The trucking company was in a hurry so they put second shift on it. 7 that night I get a phone call #####ing I must of !@#@ up engine locked up wont turn. 2nd shift foreman was going to have my ### on the carpet and so on. I drive an hr to work put a ratchet on the acc drive and the truck is twisting . I get in and bump it out of gear and b team ate crow. Got paid 4 hrs for that and need to say no more double teaming with these clowns, service manager was pissed. If they weren't ##### over it I would had let it slide and took a 2 hr round trip on my ticket.

no reason to give the dummy a break, you charge the full price, and maybe the company will fire him for a costly non-issue road call.Pedigreed Bulldog, TROOPER to TRUCKER, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

Something in the transmission definitely turns when in neutral.
Push in the clutch. Start your truck in the morning below minus 20. After it fires up, let out the clutch and the engine will slow down from being loaded down by the stiff transmission oil.Lepton1, stillwurkin, Dino soar and 4 others Thank this. -
Countershafts and mainshaft gears turn with the engine when in neutral. Its not until you pick a gear that you lock one of the mainshaft gears to the mainshaft. Then power goes thru to the aux section and then to the output yolk.
Here's a breakdown of an 18 speed. Might provide some clarity for those who've never seen one opened up. All Eaton twin countershaft transmissions are similar to this. A 9/10 speed just uses a 2 speed aux section, a 15 uses a 3 speed and an 18 uses a 4 speed. Honestly not sure what the 13 speed uses, its not common out here since everything is 18 speed. I think the 13 speed uses a 4 speed aux as well but with the splitter locked out in low range.
