The medication is not a disqualifier as it is not being used for seizures. Many drugs are often used for off label use because they work effectively. She stated she does not have seizures. I would pass her after confirming she took it for what she stated.
Medications.

Out of curiosity, who do you think gets their NRCMA license yanked if we do something reckless and irresponsible? We go to school for many years so we are experts in this field. I am required to have massive amounts of liability insurance as a medical provider.

Many medicines have multiple purposes; such as "sildenafil citrate", aka Viagra.
Treats a condition in which high blood pressure affects arteries of the lungs, and right side of the heart.
Treats hypertension due to blocked lung arteries. Symptoms include chest pain and shortness of breath. Treatments include medications such as sildenafil citrate and lifestyle changes.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Ask for a different medication try seroquil it’s ised for bipolar and stabilizes moods and depression. Grant it it’s an anti psychotic lol
-
It’s now a controlled substance not sure how it’s classified after they bumped it up.
-
YIKES!!! Never take this advice. If you have something related to bipolar and it is working NEVER switch medications. It could have a more detrimental effect on your diagnosis. It takes months and months to get these medications even working correctly. If it is working DO NOT ask to switch!! As I stated before, it does not exclude you from your CDL License nor your DOT exam. I would pass you on it PERIOD!Chinatown Thanks this.

You can take it and it does not affect anything from a CDL standpoint or FMCSA. It is not primarily a seizure drug and used more often as a mood stabilizer. Don't listen to what any of these people are saying as they are not medical professionals. I am and another point I just saw... IT IS NOT A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE. I have no clue where any of these people are getting their information but they are all wrong. I am a FMCSA NRCME that does your DOT exam and have been in the medical field over 21 years. I would pass you on that medication.Chinatown Thanks this.

Where are you getting your information? It is not a controlled substance and be responsible posting medical advice. Unless of course you went to school for this. Reason??? DR GOOGLE IS NOT CORRECT!! As a medical professional I would choose prefer lamictal over Seroquel anyway as I know the research data behind both medications.
-
St. John's Wort is advertised as a mood stabilizer. What's your opinion, or are you allowed to comment on OTC supplements?
-
The DOT/FMCSA only expressly prohibits Schedule 1 drugs and any medication used to control seizures. As I said in an earlier post. I use versed sometimes when my seizures are bad. As I use it Versed is a banned substance. However, for the average person Versed is not a banned substance. All other medications are for the medical examiner to decide based on their guidance in the FMCSA handbook.
It doesn't matter if a substance is controlled or OTC, the FMCSA leaves the final decision to the ME.
