I have a new reefer trailer. One of the shippers I loaded or unloaded at recently gouged about 19 feet of the wall thru the insulation with either a forklift or something. No way the operator failed to notice this. The two shippers I suspect both have that stupid policy of "driver cannot be in cab while loading or unloading"
Repair cost is going to be $8000 - possibly a little more. Neither shipper will own up to damaging my trailer - go figure.
To aid with any future problems like this or any other dispute I want to install a camera(s) facing from the front to back, back to front and back into the dock. Lighting isn't an issue - have overhead led lights already.
I'm still looking into what I want to get. I'd prefer it to be wired (not wireless) and I'd like the cameras to record on my laptop I have in the truck. My laptop is up to the task and I have an SSD raid array I can use for video storage.
Any other O/O have cameras in their trailer? If so can you give a brief description?
Thanks!
Anyone have cameras inside their trailer?

I think thats a #### good idea driver. Make these propane jockeys pay for their #### ups. I know u van guys deal with that #### all the time and its really unfortunate because that equipment is very expensive especially when ur the one payin the bills. I would imagine u could bolt something on the ceiling facing backwards towards the doors

I too think this is a great idea. I’m not sure how practical it would be or if it would even work, but I wonder how useful a game camera would be? They’re designed to be outdoors so they’d be fairly hardy, especially since you’re in the temp controlled business. They’d only record when there was activity in the trailer, set up hopefully would be fairly simple if you can decide on a mounting point. And you wouldn’t have to do a bunch of wiring and splicing and all of that. Again, I may be way out of line and that’s not even a viable option.
Edit: I just reread and saw you’d rather it be a wired platform. So nix my idea.Last edited: Jun 28, 2019

Should be able to use just a wireless backup camera because it'll run on 12v already. Just leave the lights on. I'm not sure about recording though. Front top corner will be near the marker light wires.

What about just a gopro on a suction mount or have a base permanent in it drop the gopro in backup and remove when done and I know some you can view the video on your phone in real time
motocross25 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
This is a great suggestion. That was my thinking with the game camera to be able to have something withstand the moisture and the air flow and condensation and temp swings and all the fun stuff that comes with reefering. But I think yours is a better idea. Something the OP could mount before loading/unloading, and then remove in transit and stow more securely I feel is the way to go.

I know @Dieselboss has wired cameras for the rear of the trailer but not sure if their system can do more then one "trailer" camera. Here is a link to their site. Mobile DVR for car, truck, RV, or bus video recording multiple dash and commercial camera security systems

Man that would suck big time i'd be frothing at the mouth after I discovered what they did to that trailer too. Yeah unless the fork lift operator actually admitted they caused the damage its going to be hard to prove your the only one that knows exactly which was the last place you loaded at before the damage was done. Yeah a camera would really be a great idea its just a shame that we all live in a so called Christian society yet no one seems to be honest these days.Dino soar, longbedGTs, OldeSkool and 3 others Thank this.

You could easily rig a Go Pro or something similar to a motion sensor but I’m sure there are already motion DVR security options available that can run on 12v and give you video feed to the cab without wires. Check newegg.com or another electronics retailer.
Best of luck and drive safely!D.Tibbitt Thanks this.
