My TND 730 has been messed up since April when the GPS reset and now it thinks it is always 11/11/2099. I have tried to reset it but it won’t let me. The time is also wrong and I can never trust the clock. Sometimes I’ll be in the mountain time Zone and it displays the time for Alaska. I have researched the issue and RM seems to have no interest in fixing this issue. It still navigates just as well as ever but the time issue is annoying and it seems like RM could fix it with a software update but refuses to do so. They probably want me to shell out $400 for a new 740 but why should I if they won’t support the unit I already have? I have also read about swelling battery issues with the 740. Should I get the newer 740 or switch to another brand? If I switch what would you recommend?
So disappointed with Rand McNally

Did you try a reset? GPS position is determined by triangulation using very precise time so it is ironic and probably very frustrating that the unit time is off.
To reset: Power the unit off then hold the up volume button and then press the power button.
I use CoPilot Truck, which is a phone app and it costs $10 a month or $100 for the year and includes active traffic. As with any navigation device use your own judgement. I’ve had both Navigo and CoPilot try and turn me somewhere I shouldn’t. I think all of them give some bad directions at some point. I’m glad I didn’t spend $700 on a stand alone unit.

Hmm, sorry I guess that link was for a different model. I looked at their site and this appears to be a known issue “with no easy resolution” for your unit.
If you have a decent size smartphone and want to try CoPilot Truck download the app and maps over wifi and spend the $10. If you don’t like it you are only out $10. I have noticed that it is sometimes glitchy displaying the correct ETA when crossing time zones but that could be due to the cell towers. All maps are offline so you don’t need a signal to plan trips or navigate.
The software uses PC Miler truck routing and you can configure for size, height, weight, and hazmat.Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
The thing I don't like about Co-Pilot is that it constantly uses your phone plans data. So if your limited that can take a toll on your wallet when your in some place that it goes to roaming.
But yes, RM has been having some issues lately... I am still using my 720 and have no intention to upgrade until they fix that dang magnetic mount.flood and classic_150 Thank this. -
