Welcome to Friggin Lower Alabama, (Fla.) Unfortunately, I know where you are comming from; as I live in Panama City, Fl. Based on what you had written...here are a few that you can check into...Paschal Truck Lines, (PTL) is hiring out of Florida and will overlook the fact that you haven't been behind the wheel in a bit. If you are looking to get home daily or weekly, and you are willing to pick up a tanker
endorsement..Florida Rock and Tank Lines...the money is good, but it's fuel hauling.
They will retrain you anyway. I was in that same situation ...no one is hiring out of Florida in my area either...and I have been out of the truck for about a year taking care of family. As for myself, I found employment getting into a lease/purchase...yeah, I know I might be getting screwed in the deal; but then again since I've got nothing, I have nothing to loose. Best of luck to ya.

yeah,I live in Florida Too,But in jacksonville. I was out of Work for 4 months. Finally got on with "Arnold". They seam to be a decent company But, i don't think they'll hire that far south. Also, I believe they require at least 1 year experience. But they do seam to make exceptions to certain matters on a case by case bases. if you still haven't found anything as of this posting, it couldn't hurt to give them a call.Good luck!

I too live in Florida. It has been brutal trying to find a job as a resident of Florida. It has been this way since about October 2008.

The ONLY possibilities are Florida-based companies. Very few are hiring though. I hate thought of working for LCT (Lester Coggins Transport). They filed for bankruptcy last fall (2008). However, Oakley Transport is apparently hiring, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to actually hire anyone.

There are a few companies in Jacksonville and the Orlando area advertising on CareerBuilder

We live in Florida too (north) hubby works for a small company now hauling pinestraw but it will get very slow soon. I am planning to go to school and we would like to go OTR together for weeks at a time. If you don't mind not getting home to Florida much does that make a difference to companies? This sure is a great thread....lots of helpful people!!

You can find Agriculture work in Florida. Produce is Hot right now at this season . Coming out of Florida, delivering to other states.
Find some Produce Brokers and they can tell you who's looking for drivers.
Omakalee has many brokers sitting around there. That area is called Produce Haven.

Other than that, I've been hearing companies that are hiring for Local work, are hiring " foreigners" which these companies are paying these drivers below min wage, like ,
4 something an hour. And these drivers are happy with that.
