Ok, so you mean once I give LS the passed inspection for the tractor, and likely the paid 2290 receipt and some other paperwork, I can then add the insurance from Gallagher and get the plates? I was expecting that to not happen until I go through the day 2 business class likely a week from this Tuesday (July 16) in Fort Worth. I already went through the safety day.

 

I highly recommend figuring out your costs per day. For example my fixed cost per day is $220, rounded up, with the average on fuel it's about $330.

I recommend not following YouTube truckers because all truckers lie. You need to start looking at some really simple economics courses. They will help you in the long run way more than Bubba telling you about his fat stacks

 

I got my hood, radiator, and charged air cooler off today before the rain set in. What did you get done?

 

They will fedex the whole shebang overnight as soon as you get your inspection as long as you have the rest you mentioned. Plates, permits, decals, comdata cards. Overnight, one box. You'll get your e log at orientation. Or if you don't have the truck, or you need all the rest before you do the elog, it will also come fedex, and you can install it yourself, pretty idiot proof, I mean even I did it. Then you get your trailer. Then, when you can't take anymore, you can book your first load lol.

 

It sounds like the steps will go fast once I officially have the truck, inspection, 2290, etc.

Like I said, I went through the first day already and listened to part of the 2nd day while I was completing the 5 online safety courses needed within the first 15 days a week ago. I PM’d you in early June when I was first applying to LS. I applied on June 5th and was approved on June 21st! Was surprised at how fast it went! During the process I met another BCO and was willing to be an operator pulling a van for him. After I was approved, he tried convincing me to instead pull a drop deck flatbed, which is way out of my comfort zone pulling vans for 26 years, so I decided to decline his offer and proceed as a BCO on my own. Right now I just need to get my truck activated within this 30 day timeframe from when I was first approved to avoid going through the whole process all over again!

Really excited about this new venture. It will not be like my time as a driver for Walmart.....which will be a good thing around holidays when I can be home instead of working because of so many other drivers who were ahead of me seniority wise.

I just do van. Those are my numbers for just company shmo van driver. That's this last settlement, today in fact lol. Cascadia is an excellent choice. 350 Chevy of the trucking world. Squeezes fuel.

I plan to use Express Tax for the 2290. They have a website bco2290.com I was referred to by LS.

I have enjoyed the Cascadia a lot. All the years driving one for Walmart was great on fuel (8+ mpg) and very reliable. The Cascadia I am purchasing is in great shape and even has a Bose Ride seat, which may make for nicer days on some rough roads. I am having Thermo King install a new TriPac APU on the truck in the coming week. Having the APU on a Walmart truck for a lot of years is a feature I definitely wanted on my truck, especially here in hot Texas!

 

You'll ruin your engine without an APU.

 

I agree! Likely why I never saw any emissions related problems on past Walmart trucks due to it never idling.
