If you're new to trucking, take it and run. In a year you'll have enough doubles experience to go with companies that do the same thing and pay more. Decent company that pays low and has older equipment, both good things for a new driver.

Great job. Worked there for 6 years. It was a career job til YRC took over. Easiest linehaul gig. Eventually they plan on merging. Then you’ll go to the bottom of the YRC board. Only bad draw back.

I made 80k a year on a bid. Most bid guys make 70-80k. Extraboard you can make more if you work 6 days a week.

 

Where are you out of?

 

I'll give you the quick notes. I did three years out of Montana. It took three years to top out on the pay scale. My annual incomes were: $58k, $65k, and $72k.

Pros:
1. Awesome pay and benefits. The benefits are worth about $14+/hour
2. Steady work.
3. My barn had 5% layover runs. Home most days and weekends/major holidays
4. You are usually left alone and people dont bother you as long as you make your times

Cons:
1. I had a consistent start time, but you might not
2. Dispatch operates on a fly. Bring a layover bag since a turn can end up unexpected into a layover
3. Garbage equipment

I left linehaul because I ended up in a relationship and wanted to spend more time with my gf (now wife). Overall, Reddaway linehaul was one the best jobs I've ever had.

If you are single with no pets (or are married to someone patient) I would totally jump on this job. Especially since you are green and many companies want some experience.

I gave you all the info based on me topping out at $0.52/mile and $20/hour. Do your math and figure out if that is enough to cover your cost of living. Overall though, at worst, it's a good company to gain some some of that experience everyone else craves.

 

Probably one of the best offers being a brand new driver your gonna get and you’ll be home and not OTR gone for a month. Normal newbie Pay is awfully low compared. It is a great way to start your career. Experience is a big key to get your foot in the door at the better paying jobs.

I made 45k as a new OTR driver in 06. So be grateful for what your getting.
