Hello.
I just got an offer from reddaway to be a line haul driver. I'm still kinda green, so I figured maybe this was a good gig. But I was hoping to hear what others had to say.
They're starting me off at .54 a mile, 21.50/hour when the truck isn't moving.
The TM said my start times would be sporadic and that I should look forward to having some muddy hours. But that ill make alot of f****** money.
Someone give me.some insight on this company and how well the line haulers fair?
reddaway line haul.

If you're new to trucking, take it and run. In a year you'll have enough doubles experience to go with companies that do the same thing and pay more. Decent company that pays low and has older equipment, both good things for a new driver.
@road_runner can tell you more or look up his posts about working with Reddaway.alds, FlaSwampRat, MACK E-6 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Great job. Worked there for 6 years. It was a career job til YRC took over. Easiest linehaul gig. Eventually they plan on merging. Then you’ll go to the bottom of the YRC board. Only bad draw back.
I made 80k a year on a bid. Most bid guys make 70-80k. Extraboard you can make more if you work 6 days a week.Texas_hwy_287 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Where are you out of?

I'll give you the quick notes. I did three years out of Montana. It took three years to top out on the pay scale. My annual incomes were: $58k, $65k, and $72k.
Pros:
1. Awesome pay and benefits. The benefits are worth about $14+/hour
2. Steady work.
3. My barn had 5% layover runs. Home most days and weekends/major holidays
4. You are usually left alone and people dont bother you as long as you make your times
Cons:
1. I had a consistent start time, but you might not
2. Dispatch operates on a fly. Bring a layover bag since a turn can end up unexpected into a layover
3. Garbage equipment
I left linehaul because I ended up in a relationship and wanted to spend more time with my gf (now wife). Overall, Reddaway linehaul was one the best jobs I've ever had.
If you are single with no pets (or are married to someone patient) I would totally jump on this job. Especially since you are green and many companies want some experience.
Edit:. This thread that I wrote up several years ago should give you most the answers you needLast edited: Jul 15, 2019

I guess I'm just more curious about the company itself, as well as line haul as a job.
Being new to the industry, I've heard some horror stories about how companies tend to lie and mislead newer drivers. Just wanna make sure this isn't one of those situations. Cause to me the offer they're giving me seems like, a needle in a haystack stack lol.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
I made 45k as a new OTR driver in 06. So be grateful for what your getting.Texas_hwy_287, FlaSwampRat and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
Riffraff37 did you take the job? How is it?
McUzi and road_runner Thank this.
