everytime I go to Chicago I hear a lot of drivers say the container haulers near that area are some of the most dangerous drivers and use out of service trucks. Would you say container haulers in that area are dangerous, or what city takes the cake in your opinion?

I would say anyone in a big truck trying to speed through construction..narrow lanes..passing when most, if not all vehicles are going over the speed limit anyway. All that to gain what..39 seconds? Look at one of the latest crashes on Indiana ,think I-475? Another knucklehead. Sad situation.

They don't hold a candle to a West Texas water hauler.

Doing containers in those rail yards destroys your truck

Here is my experience. Container or can hauling is what you make it. If you want to beat ,and run your truck into the ground you can do that on any kind of trucking. Dump work is probably the hardest on a truck. I am speaking of mostly large straight dump type. The off road situations, uneven terrain stresses out crossmembers and frames. Weight doesn't help either. Bottom line is the driver, and owner must take care of equipment. Four wheeler drivers are the most dangerous. But the transportation industry is trying to surpass their (cars) record. The pool for real truck drivers is slowly dwindling. My opinion.

Well, I hauled containers out of the Windy for almost 5 years, and my truck was subject to yearly inspections, just like the big guys. There is a lot of junk, but most of those are cross town movers, and get away with running junk, but anything pulled out of the city are usually decent trucks. Mine was.

Yeah west tx. Oil field is by far the most dangerous in the country. I did Chicago railyards for 9yrs. Crosstown -railyard trucks are a little rough. Not even close to being as bad as tx. Oil field trucks. Too bad Chicago railyards are dead, the most fun driving job there is.

I did containers myself decades ago. Got out of it. If it was fixed, too heavy 130K or more. Scales break a couple of times. Tickets to company. fix fix fix, wait wait wait. Almost kill people plural. I was very dangerous in the cursed line of work with seacans. I quit them pernamently.

I got zero training, zero feedback zero everything until one day the owner asked me in person, am I independantly wealthy?

Wot? I proceeded to write him a 5 page lesson on how to equipt a proper and safe trucking company.

Did it work? I have no idea.

I don't pay attention to chiraq that much. I got my own challenges going in there.
