    Plan Ahead!!

There are a hundred different ways to earn an income driving. Most never figure it out. As for me, I now live in an extremely bad location: Florida. I am screwed no matter what I know or how many years experience I may have.

The best paying job OTR is over-dimension work. THERE ARE NO ROOKIE DRIVERS THERE!! This work is only for veteran drivers with flatbed or dropdeck experience.

The closest thing you may do to have the dream job you seek is NOT to be a company driver. A company driver drives for a trucking company. If you can, drive for a corporation. A corporate driver is one who has dedicated freight for their company. Dairy companies, water companies, Wal-Mart, food companies and others have a much better deal for drivers if you can get hired on with them.

Corporate drivers have a tendency to remain with their employers a lot longer than typical OTR company drivers.

Having talked to many corporate drivers (always looking for a better position), this is VERY good advice. They tend to be a lot happier with their employer, as a whole.

I realize there may be some drivers who will tell you that you may earn the money you desire. However, it's not the cents per mile that's the problem, it's the lack of miles.

Knight drivers are averaging about 300-600 miles per week, JB's drivers about 1000 per week. See what I mean?

If the company can guarantee miles, some how, take the job!! Your other option is an hourly wage. This may be less than you want, but it's steady!!
