Thats Right Keeping somebody around like that is a Crime.

Thats 42 hours of your Life you gave away to some waterm,elon farmer...Not even 65 bucks an hours keeping me there..My Time is more important than Demurrage, UNLESS I Bill you $110 per hour, Then we'll start talking 20-30-40 hours of my time.

 

Produce shippers can be a real PITA. Reefer commodities in general are a pain but the extra pay usually makes up for it. I'm sitting in a lot right now in central Calif waiting for a load of Coke. I arrived 20 minutes before the appointment time and waiting for a parking spot to open up per the guards instructions before walking over to check in. By the time I got to the receiving desk it was 15 minutes after the appointment time and the gal said they would charge me $300 for being late. I told to her cancel the load since I'm just 70 miles from home. She yelled at me "YOU CAN'T DO THAT". I said that I just did and started to walk out. She said she would call my boss and have me fired. I said go ahead, I'm the owner. Eventually she relented and said she would waive the late fee.

 

Some of these receiving/shipping employees and even some guards have some sort of a God complex.

 

When I see the pink shoes, hat, vest. They are using a pen with pink ink, lightning bolts coming out of their eyes simply because I'm a male of the species, I switch into " I'm going to make this person my friend mode."

I view as a challenge I play a game with myself.

You always have to be able to adapt to the situation at hand. Kind of like Law #1 of trucking!

 

It's even more than that. My first thought is always " How about if I just pull your lungs out of your nose? Or just go F yourself when I encounter the haters.

I made a conscious decision about 3 years ago to best those people without using those trains of thought.

 

My worst watermelon experience was a farm in Cordele, Ga also.

The farm had me arrive at 05:00, then didn't start loading me until 17:00. I got to the Pilot to scale it and it was over 83K. I called them and they told me they were closed and I had to come back the next day. I got it sorted out first thing the next morning and called the agent to get a reschedule on the delivery. The agent called back and said WallyWorld wouldn't take me until four days after my original appointment. When I finally got into a dock WM rejected the load claiming it was decayed. So I had to sit around two more days while the farmer found someone to buy the load. He sold it to another farm. The agent refused to pay layover claiming the farmer wouldn't pay (as if I had a contract with the farmer instead of with him). Landstar was absolutely no help either. The agent was ATZ. I have never carried a load for them since and I have never carried watermelons for anyone since. I don't do watermelons or potatoes.


Back when I drove for Swift they once sent me to Nogales, Az to pick up a load of watermelons from Cactus Melons. GPS is very screwy in Nogales and when I got to what I thought was the address I couldn't find the shipper. After doing a few u-turns and running back and forth I found someone I could ask. He told me they had recently moved around the corner. When I asked if he knew the street address he told me it's the same. When I looked confused he said they had taken the numbers off of their old building and put them on the new building - so that drivers could find them. I thought this guy was messing with me. When I drove around the corner I saw their sign. The number on their building was indeed the old number and it was completely out of sequence with the other building numbers on the street. Border towns. Sheesh.
