Dude GET OUT AND LOOK. GET OUT AND LOOK. GET OUT AND LOOK . GET OUT AND LOOK . GET OUT AND LOOK. I dont care if you havr to pull them brakes in the middle of the ####ing street to make sure ur not gonna hit nothing.DO IT. Let me ask why the F are u backing up on a street because u missed a turn? . i miss a turn just about every frickin day , and it has never crossed my mind to back up from where i just turned. That should not even be an option. U now need to figure out how the fck to get out of there. It does not matter the street wasnt made for trucks. U need to find somewhere big enough to turn around or pull over throw ur 4 ways on . get out gogle maps and figure out how to get back around the block . there is so many tools at your disposal nowadays and u didnt use any of them. And Why are u trusting ppl to guide you into your parking spot ? Ppl guide you in all the time? You must look like you dont know what ur doing. That means u need to frickin practice practice practice your backing skills. There is times i have gotton out and looked 8-10 times. Sometimes more than that . whatever it takes. The number one rule in trucking is DONT ####ING HIT ANYTHING
2nd backing accident in over a month..most likely going to get terminated

Another way to look at it is try to avoid putting yourself in a position to have to back. I know backs have to happen (truck stops, bumping docks, etc) but always try to put yourself in a position to not have to unless 100% needed. You would be amazed how much you can avoid it if you put some thought into it. Now that I pull doubles I have these thoughts constantly because I am not one of these guys that can do figure 8s with a pair of trailers. Everytime I stop somewhere take a leak or grab something to eat or fuel I have to set myself up to park safe so I don't get hit and leave myself an out so I can leave without putting it in reverse. Same thought process could work with a 53 I imagine.

OP, i had a driver who trusted someone to help him back up. He was doing fine until he took out a new mack, on the blind side. The guy disappeared immediately and the driver was blamed. The camera proved someone was back there trying to guide him so I didn't can the driver.
However I reminded him never to trust anyone when backing up, good intentions or devious behavior will cause problems equally.
AND I also remind my drivers regularly never to assist someone else, this will involve them in legal issues if they are not careful.
Always get out and look, it takes practice and patients to put a truck in a slot. -

Just so you know I’ve been doing this for only 8months or so but I have gotten out to look so much at truck stops I had to wait for my air pressure to rebuild. To hell with everyone else waiting
