If mine was solid I wouldn’t worry about it either. But I routinely brush small rocks off my catwalk, one is bound to find its way through the holes and to the top of those fins sooner or later.

So the crossmember I'm replacing is the rearmost crossmember used with the Freightliner Airliner. Basically just an 1/8" C-Channel 4"×4". I'm going to use a 4"×4" piece of 3/16" square tubing. Now I really dislike using tubing because it can trap dirt, salt etc. I'm going to cut some holes on the bottom face for drainage, cleaning, etc. Any ideas on how to go about it? Could always go to my neighbour's place and have him fire up the CNC plasma cutter lol.

I had an opportunity to speak with the owner of a beautiful long hood W900A at the show yesterday. 12 years he spent building that truck. KTA19 Cummins power. Just an all around beautiful truck. Suddenly I don't feel so bad having been working on mine 4.5 years so far. Perfection takes time.
