A bit of trivia. There is no actual town or city known as Hell, MI. At most it's a subdivision.
    The township is Putnam, MI.

It's just one of those tourist trap places that pop up. A mini-golf, souvenir shop and a bar next door. It was cute to visit once, but not really worth the few minute drive off US23 to get there.

Oh ya the good old tachograph. If you took a safety pin. Opened it up and straighteed it out. Insert in the key hole at the top. JUST right so it touched the card, but didnt' go thru it making a hole. All if a sudden the fastest your truck went was 55mpr. Of course had to be careful not to hit a bump, or the pin might move or fall out.

Oh yaaaa I remember the old "tach o graph"

Had to be careful about inserting them. To much and you told on yourself by making a hole in graph
But if you put a needle in the key hole with a small brad underneath to hold it in place. The speedometer needle would hit it and stop straight up at 55. Could be going 75 and company couldn't tell.

I used to own a 1947 Flxible Coach (RV converted bus) with such a clock type device installed. Not only did it have the internal circular chart recorder but its front was a large round speedometer dial, front and center on the dash where the passengers could look up the aisle and see the speed. I can only imagine some of the older folks of the time: "Aint ya going a little too fast, sonny?" Unfortunately the recorder was shot. the speedo worked.

My Mack assigned to me with that company had a recorder disk on paper, the max speed was oh... 66 maybe.

Had that old thing over at 3 grand and 100 plus racing 5 others to Pentagon Silos.

Safety suit looks at the disk and sees that the trip was VERY short and the RPMs were not to be believed.

    Still 66 mph.

Tossed it over his shoulder and intoned...

    "BS" we fix that today.

    shrugs.

Like I said a small pin or needle fixed that thing. Stopped the recording needle straight up at 55mph.
